When booking a trip, you can either pay for it in full or reserve your spot with a 30% deposit. The remaining 70% of the trip price is to be paid 90 days prior to departure, at the latest.

Cancellations

After 48 hours, booking fees are non-refundable in all cases. You can choose one of 57hours’ flexibility options:

  • If canceled within 48 hours of booking, a full refund will be issued.
  • If canceled 60 or more days before departure, a 70% refund of the total trip price will be issued.
  • If canceled within 59 days of departure, no refund will be issued.
  • Booking fees are non-refundable after a 48 hours grace period.
Flexible
  • If canceled within 48 hours of booking, a full refund will be issued.
  • If canceled 60 or more days before departure, a full refund of the total trip price will be issued.
  • If canceled 30-59 days before departure, a 50% refund of the total trip price will be issued.
  • If canceled within 29 days of departure, no refund will be issued.

  • This Douro Valley walking tour is a six-day journey through one of Portugal’s most beautiful and historic regions. Walks through vineyards and stone villages are paired with wine tastings, cultural visits, and memorable local meals. With all transfers, entry fees, tastings, and an expert local guide included, everything runs smoothly from start to finish, leaving plenty of space to enjoy the scenery, the food, and the character of the Douro Valley.

    • From Porto, we travel by van into the upper Douro region to the medieval village of Marialva. We explore its castle, stone walls, and historic houses, soaking up the atmosphere of this beautifully preserved village. After time to wander and take photos, we enjoy a light lunch at a traditional restaurant featuring regional dishes and local wines. In the afternoon, we set out on a relaxed countryside walk through olive groves and granite boulder fields, following quiet paths to the village of Longroiva. We arrive in time to settle in and enjoy dinner in this peaceful spa town.

    • We begin the day at the prehistoric rock-art site of the Côa Valley, where expert guides introduce us to ancient engravings along the river. From here, we travel to a renowned wine estate for a guided visit of the winery and museum, followed by a wine tasting with light snacks. In the afternoon, we board a scenic train journey along the Douro River, passing terraced vineyards, villages, and rolling hills. On arrival in Pinhão, we transfer uphill to the village of Provesende, where we settle into our historic hotel for the next two nights.

    • After breakfast, we head east for a scenic walk through the protected landscape of the Tua River valley. We follow paths lined with olive groves, almond orchards, and wildflowers while learning about the region’s flora and fauna. Our walk ends at Quinta Vila Rachel, where we enjoy a guided vineyard visit and learn about the estate’s organic winemaking practices. We finish with a wine tasting and picnic lunch overlooking the Tua and Douro valleys. In the afternoon, we return to Provesende for time to relax before enjoying a tapas-style dinner at our hotel.

    • We set out from Provesende on a country walk through vineyards, olive groves, and fruit orchards, following ancient stone paths toward the Douro River. Arriving in Pinhão, we board a relaxing river cruise and admire the terraced vineyards lining the banks. After the boat ride, there is free time for lunch in Pinhão. We then transfer to Peso da Régua, where we check in to our hotel and enjoy dinner together.

    • We transfer to Vila Real and walk from the historic center to the Corgo River, following boardwalks and riverside paths to the city’s river park. Along the way, we visit the local food market and the Gothic cathedral complex. After lunch, we tour the historic Casa de Mateus, exploring its Baroque interiors and gardens, followed by a tasting of local Port wine. Back in Peso da Régua, there is time to visit the Douro Wine Museum before dinner in town.

    • We enjoy a relaxed morning before departing Peso da Régua and traveling to Amarante. Here, we take a gentle walk along the river and through town before sitting down for a farewell lunch. In the afternoon, we continue on to Porto, bringing our Douro walking journey to a close.

    • To join this Douro Valley walking tour, a basic level of fitness is all that’s needed. You should be comfortable walking for a few hours, but there’s no need to be an athlete. Daily distances reach up to 6 miles (10 km) at most, and guides can easily adjust the route, with optional sections available to suit different fitness levels.

      You’ll mostly be walking on packed dirt trails and cobblestone, with occasional paved trails and cycling paths along the river.

    • Here’s a list of the equipment you need to bring:

        • Day pack large enough to carry everything you might need throughout the day (around a 25-40L bag)

      Dress comfortably and for the weather in clothes you can move in. We suggest bringing clothing appropriate for the season. Layers are best and don’t wear jeans.

    • Driving on this tour is kept to a comfortable minimum and is mainly used to connect the most scenic walking areas. Transfers are well spaced, with most drives ranging from short hops of 10-50 minutes.

      The longest driving day is Day 1 from Porto into the upper Douro (around 3.5 hours), which allows us to reach a more remote and less-visited part of the region. After that, driving is generally limited to 45 minutes to 2.5 hours on select days, often combined with walking, wine visits, a scenic train ride, or a river boat cruise. Overall, the itinerary balances walking and travel well, avoiding long days in the van while still allowing you to experience the full beauty of the Douro Valley comfortably.

        • For this Douro valley walking tour, there will be 2 guides for 4-7 guests, i.e., 3 guides for 8-14 guests.
        • It takes a minimum of 4 people for this tour to operate. The maximum group size is set at 14 participants.

        • Minors above the age of 14 may be permitted to join the Douro valley walking tour on a case-by-case basis, but must be in the presence of a parent or legal guardian.

    • The price for this Douro valley walking tour is based on twin-share rooms, but a single occupancy room can be arranged at an additional fee. You can add it to your booking at checkout.

    • The starting point of your Douro valley walking tour is Porto, Portugal. To get there, most people fly into Porto Airport (OPO), just 30 minutes away from downtown Porto by public transport, shuttle, or a taxi. Alternatively, if you fly into Lisbon Airport (LIS), it will take you circa 3 hours to reach Porto by a train or a bus, or you can rent a car.

      You will meet your guide at 9 am on Day 1 at Vincci Porto Hotel, Porto.
