  • The Danube river bike and boat tour is an all-inclusive 8-day journey through four of Central Europe's most fascinating countries. Gentle e-bike stages follow the Danube past imperial cities, Baroque monasteries, medieval castles, and vineyard-covered hillsides, while the BELLA river cruise ship handles all the logistics in between. With expert guides, a support vehicle always on standby, and full-board dining included, there's nothing to organize and nowhere to rush. This is relaxed, rewarding travel through some of Europe's most beautiful and historically rich river landscapes—one easy ride and smooth sail at a time.

    • We arrive in Passau—a charming Bavarian city at the confluence of three rivers—and make our way to the port in Passau-Racklau, less than 3 km from the train station. We board the BELLA no later than 3:30 pm and set sail at 4 pm, heading downstream toward Vienna. The first scenic highlight comes almost immediately: the Schlögener Schlinge, a dramatic 180-degree bend where the Danube winds through the Bohemian Massif—a spectacular introduction to the week ahead.

    • We arrive in Austria’s capital around noon and, after lunch on board, hop on our e-bikes to explore. We cross the iconic Reichsbrücke onto the Danube Island—a long, leafy recreation island beloved by Viennese locals—then continue into the Lobau floodplains of the Donau-Auen National Park. We round out the day cycling through the Prater, Vienna’s historic entertainment district, and return along the Danube banks. The evening is free to explore the city center at your own pace.

    • Another day in Vienna, another direction. We head upriver and ascend into the Vienna Woods, climbing with the help of our e-bikes to the summit of Leopoldsberg—where Vienna’s fate was decided during the Turkish sieges of the 17th century, and where the views today are simply stunning. We descend to Klosterneuburg, home to a magnificent Baroque abbey, then follow a scenic, traffic-free route back to the ship. In the evening, we set sail toward Hungary.

    • We arrive in Hungary and step ashore at Esztergom, crowned by the country’s largest basilica—a site so significant it features in the Nibelungenlied as the castle of King Etzel. After exploring, a short transfer takes us to Visegrád Castle, perched dramatically above the Danube Bend, one of the river’s most breathtaking spots. We descend to the Danube, cross to Szentendrei-sziget Island by ferry, and cycle through peaceful rural countryside before finishing in the charming Baroque town of Szentendre.

    • Today is all Budapest. The Danube divides the city into two distinct halves—Buda and Pest—connected by a series of iconic bridges, and we have the day to explore both at our own pace. In Pest, the Parliament building and Heroes’ Square are unmissable; in Buda, the castle district, Matthias Church, and the Fishermen’s Bastion reward every step. An optional guided city tour is available to book on board. In the evening, the BELLA sets sail upstream—offering one last look at Budapest lit up from the water.

    • We arrive in Bratislava—Slovakia’s compact, walkable capital, with an old town that has been beautifully restored since its days as Pressburg, the Habsburg coronation city. Our cycling stage begins at the ruins of Devín Castle, a few kilometers west of the city, and leads us to the Baroque palace of Schloss Hof in Austria. We cross the Danube at Hainburg and reach the dramatic “Hainburger Pforte”—the narrow rocky gateway where the river passes between Austria and Slovakia. A bus transfer returns us to Bratislava before the ship departs.

In Krems we disembark and ride to Dürnstein, where Richard the Lionheart was once imprisoned in the clifftop castle. We continue through wine villages like Weißenkirchen and Spitz, passing through Willendorf—where the famous Venus of Willendorf figurine, some 30,000 years old, was found—before finishing at the grand Baroque Melk Abbey.

    • This Danube e-bike tour is designed to feel comfortable and achievable for most active travelers. A basic to moderate level of fitness is all you need—you should enjoy being on a bike for a few hours, but there’s no expectation of high endurance or athletic training. With the help of e-bikes, which are included in the tour, longer distances and occasional hills feel much more manageable.

Over the course of the journey, the total cycling distance is around 176–185 km (110–115 miles), spread across five riding days, with the longest single stage reaching 39 km (24 miles). Routes follow designated cycling paths, low-traffic secondary roads, and paved trails along the Danube—predominantly flat, with two notable exceptions: on Day 3 we climb to Leopoldsberg (approx. 300 m / 980 ft of elevation gain), and Day 6 includes an ascent of approximately 200 m (650 ft). A support vehicle is always available, giving you the freedom to ride as much—or as little—as you like.
