  • You know how to swim? Then, you can kiteboard! Progress from getting comfortable with a trainer-kite before body dragging in the water and riding downwind. You’ll get all this and more over three days, learning everything you’ll need to become an independent rider.

    • What you get in this adventure:

        • An experienced certified IKO instructor
        • 9 hours of lessons through 3 days
        • All technical kiteboarding gear for beginner lessons

      What’s not included:

        • Wetsuit and booties are mandatory to wear during lessons as protection from the sun and green flies — can be rented from the guide
        • Gear for advanced and wave riding lessons
    • You don’t have to be that fit to start kiteboarding. Compared to other water/wind-sports, kiteboarding is relatively easy to learn! The instructor will teach you how to control the kite, which is more about the technique rather than the fitness. However, the fitter you are, the easier it gets. It is recommended to stretch before each session.

For the advanced lessons, you have to be a Level 3 independent rider.

For the wave riding lessons, you have to be a Level 4 IKO kiteboarder and you must be able to jump, power jibe, jump transition, recover another rider, and understand weather and tides.

    • If you’re new to kiting, lessons will benefit you immensely. Technically, all you need to know to kiteboard is how to swim and how to stand on the board, but it’s much more doable if an instructor teaches you about the weather conditions, selecting a proper launch site and gear. An instructor will make sure you’re safe while you get the hang of it, and will teach you the skills needed to progress quickly and get you out there on your own in no time.

    • You will need:

        • Bathing suit
        • Beach towel
        • Water
        • Toiletries (sunscreen, hand sanitizer, bug spray, toilet paper, etc.)
        • Sunglasses
        • Camera — optional (but recommended)
        • Gear — provided for beginner lessons, can be rented for advanced and kite riding lessons
    • Group sizes and prices:

        • The kiteboarding lessons are private. The cost is per person and decreases as your group grows.
        • The maximum guest-to-guide ratio for beginner lessons is 2:1.
        • The maximum guest-to-guide ratio for advanced and wave riding lessons is 1:1.
        • For beginner lessons, all gear is included.
        • If you bring your own gear for advanced and wave riding lessons, the cost starts at $625 for nine hours of lessons per person. If you require rented gear, lessons cost $790 for nine hours of lessons per person.

Kiteboarding in Cabarete can be arranged for larger groups. Contact us to make arrangements.

      Min. age requirements:

        • If you are older than 18, you’re good to go.
        • Minors can be permitted to join the group on a case-by-case basis. While there is not necessarily a minimum age to kiteboard, there are minimum requirements, such as height, weight.

If your group has hikers under the age of 18, contact us prior to booking to make arrangements.

    • The three-day beginner kitesurfing clinic includes nine hours of lessons:

        • 3 hours on land, where you’ll learn about wind, weather and flying power kites.
        • 3 hours in the water, reviewing basic concepts taught on land. You’ll learn how to do controlled directional body drags, re-launching kites in the water, self rescue, and possibly get up on a board!
        • 3 hours in the open water with the constant company of your instructor. This is your big chance to get up on the board and ride off into the sunset!

The three-day wave riding and advanced package includes nine hours of lessons and will be catered to your specific goals, objectives, and skill level.

    • Flying into Puerto Plata (POP) is the fastest and easiest option, which is a short 30-minute cab ride from Cabarete.

Santo Domingo and Punta Cana are further away but many charter flights fly to these airports at very interesting prices, so sometimes it can make sense to fly into one of these airports and organize a ride from the airport to Cabarete. From there, you can take a cab or a shuttle to your accommodation.

Once you and your guide agree on the details of your itinerary, your guide will suggest the best time and place to meet. Be sure to arrive about 15 minutes early so you can check-in, put on a wetsuit and start your lesson on time.

    • 57hours is committed to providing safe outdoor adventure experiences. We require all guides using our platform to have a COVID-19 safety plan and to make the details of that plan accessible to travelers. In most cases, group sizes will be reduced, guides will avoid overcrowded locations, and other safety measures will be met depending on the location and activity.

We also expect clients to respect local regulations and take measures to protect themselves, guides and the communities they’re travelling to. For more information on COVID-19 measures in Cabarete, Dominican Republic, please refer to the Go Dominican Republic.

Please contact us if you have any questions or require further information. We are happy to provide you with the most up-to-date information!
