The Mountain Guides
  • Building upon the AIARE Level 1 curriculum, this advanced avalanche course in Grand Teton National Park will equip you with the tools to traverse avalanche terrain with confidence and safely lead small groups through any challenge in the backcountry.

    • This comprehensive two-day course will have you master skiing and splitboarding through challenging avalanche terrain, develop your hazard evaluation, decision-making and terrain management skills and teach you how to lead small groups to safety. The AIARE Level 2 course starts two days after an introductory online meeting with your instructor.

      DAY 1: Gathering info

You will learn how to interpret weather data and snow conditions, while a field session with a departure check will teach you how to manage risk when leading small groups. You’ll also gain advanced knowledge of avalanche release, snow pits and snow profiles.

      DAY 2: Ensuring safety

You will learn valuable ski touring skills needed in the backcountry like range checking avalanche beacons and gathering field obs. Your guide will show you how to analyze snow instability, employ proper travel techniques and select the right terrain.

    • 57hours is committed to providing safe outdoor adventure experiences. We require all guides using our platform to have a COVID-19 safety plan and to make the details of that plan accessible to travelers. In most cases, group sizes will be reduced, guides will avoid overcrowded locations, and other safety measures will be met depending on the location and activity.

We also expect clients to respect local regulations and take measures to protect themselves, guides and the communities they’re travelling to. For more information on COVID-19 measures in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, please refer to the Wyoming Department of Health’s official website.

Please contact us if you have any questions or require further information. We are happy to provide you with the most up-to-date information!
