  • This 9-day tour covers everything in the 6-day Ring Road itinerary—the Golden Circle, South Coast, glacier hike or ice cave, Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, Eastfjords, Wilderness Center, whale watching, and North Iceland—plus three extra days venturing deep into the Westfjords. One of Iceland's most remote and least-visited regions, the Westfjords brings dramatic fjords, towering seabird cliffs at Látrabjarg, the rare red sands of Rauðisandur, the cascading tiers of Dynjandi waterfall, and an Arctic fox research center. All accommodation, breakfasts, and transfers are included throughout.

    • We kick off our adventure with a pick-up in Reykjavík and head straight to Iceland’s most iconic sightseeing route—the Golden Circle. First stop is Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where you can literally walk in the rift valley between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates. From there we visit the Geysir geothermal area, where Strokkur erupts every few minutes, shooting water 20–30 m (65–98 ft) into the air, and then Gullfoss, where glacial water from the Langjökull glacier thunders into a rugged canyon. We continue south to Seljalandsfoss—where a path lets us walk behind the falls—and Skógafoss, a 60 m (197 ft) cascade often framed by rainbows, before ending the day at Reynisfjara black sand beach and its striking basalt columns and sea stacks.

      Meals: Breakfast
Accommodation: Adventure Hotel Geirland or similar

      Skogafoss South Coast
    • Today is all about ice. We head east along the South Coast, passing Mýrdalsjökull glacier—hiding the volatile Katla volcano beneath—and crossing the vast, moss-covered Eldhraun lava field, formed during the catastrophic 1783 eruption. Our main stop is Vatnajökull National Park, home to Europe’s largest glacier. We gear up and head out on a guided glacier hike across one of its outlet glaciers, exploring crevasses and striking blue ice up close. In winter, this is replaced by a visit to the Crystal Ice Cave. Afterward, we make our way to Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, where icebergs calved from the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier drift silently across the water, before washing up on nearby Diamond Beach, sparkling like gems on the black sand.

      Meals: Breakfast
Accommodation: Adventure Hotel Hof or similar

    • We follow the Ring Road into the remote Eastfjords, a region of sharp peaks, quiet fjords, and small fishing villages that feels genuinely far from the tourist trail. Along the way we stop in Djúpivogur, a small fishing village known for its focus on sustainability and its outdoor sculpture installations, and pass through Egilsstaðir, the largest town in East Iceland, situated by the Lagarfljót river—home to local legends of a serpent-like lake monster. The highlight of the day is arriving at the Wilderness Center, a unique stay on the edge of Iceland’s highlands. The restored farmhouses and free museum exhibitions tell the stories of people who once lived in this remote frontier, and in the evening we soak in the on-site geothermal hot spring and Finnish sauna.

      Meals: Breakfast
      Accommodation: Wilderness Center or similar

Museum in Iceland in the east
    • A spectacular day of transitions as we travel from East to North Iceland. We start at Stuðlagil Canyon, where towering basalt columns rise from the turquoise waters of the Jökla river—one of Iceland’s most dramatic natural sights. From there we head to the Námaskarð geothermal area, a surreal, sulfur-scented landscape of bubbling mud pools and steaming fumaroles, followed by the Lake Mývatn region with its volcanic islands and rich birdlife. We soak in the Mývatn Nature Baths—often called the Blue Lagoon of the North—then visit the Dimmuborgir lava formations before stopping at the crescent-shaped Goðafoss waterfall. We end the day in Akureyri, North Iceland’s largest town, nestled at the head of Eyjafjörður fjord.

      Meals: Breakfast
Accommodation: Berjaya Akureyri Hotel or similar

      Studlagil in East Iceland
    • This morning we head out on a whale-watching boat tour in Eyjafjörður fjord, with a 98% success rate for spotting humpback whales, dolphins, porpoises, and other ocean wildlife. Afterward we drive north to Siglufjörður, Iceland’s northernmost town, with a colorful harbor and a history as the country’s herring capital in the early 20th century. We then loop around Tröllaskagi—the Troll Peninsula—taking in some of Iceland’s most dramatic coastal scenery and passing through small villages that offer a glimpse into remote Icelandic life. We continue through farming country to Laugarbakki and stop at the island-dotted Skagafjörður fjord before settling in for the night.

      Meals: Breakfast
      Accommodation: Hotel Laugarbakki or similar

      Whale watching in Iceland
    • Our last Ring Road day takes us through West Iceland, one of the country’s most rewarding regions. We start with a short hike up the Grábrók volcano crater for wide views over surrounding lava fields, then continue to Reykholt, a historic village once home to Snorri Sturluson, the great medieval Icelandic historian and author. Next is Deildartunguhver, Europe’s most powerful hot spring, where geothermal water heats homes across the Borgarfjörður region. We visit the beautiful Hraunfossar waterfall—where countless small streams pour out from the Hallmundarhraun lava field—and neighboring Barnafoss, steeped in local legend. A stop at Sturlureykir horse farm to meet the friendly Icelandic horses rounds out the day before we arrive in Reykjavík for the night.

    • After breakfast we’re picked up in Reykjavík and head north into a part of Iceland that feels like a different world entirely. Our first stop is Eiríksstaðir Museum, a reconstructed Viking longhouse that brings the world of Leifur Eiríksson vividly to life. The road then takes us deeper into the Westfjords—a vast peninsula of dramatic fjords and steep mountain ridges—passing through Vatnsfjörður Nature Reserve along the rugged coastline. We stop at the photogenic Garðar shipwreck, its rust-stained hull resting on a black-sand beach against a backdrop of green hills. The day ends at Látrabjarg, the largest seabird cliffs in Europe, where the Atlantic and Arctic Oceans meet and large colonies of puffins come to nest, before we settle in near Breiðavík beach.

      Meals: Breakfast
      Accommodation: Hótel Flókalundur or similar

    • A full day of exploring the Westfjords’ most spectacular scenery. We start at Rauðisandur, a 10 km (6.2 mi) stretch of rare red-tinted sand—its color coming from crushed scallop shells that have accumulated over centuries. From there we head into the Fossfjörður valley and up to Dynjandi, the largest waterfall in the Westfjords, a multi-tiered cascade with a walking path and several viewpoints along the way. A quiet stop at the Önundarfjörður pier—a simple wooden walkway reaching into a fjord of turquoise water and pale sand—offers a moment to slow down before we continue to Ísafjörður, the largest town in the Westfjords, set within a deep and beautiful fjord.

      Meals: Breakfast
      Accommodation: Hotel Torg or similar

    • Our final day begins at Ósvör Museum, a restored 19th-century fishing station with turf houses and preserved rowboats that paint a vivid picture of traditional Westfjords life—just next to the striking red-orange Óshólar lighthouse. We then follow the Seven Fjords Route, winding through fjord after fjord as the landscape shifts constantly. We visit the Arctic Fox Center, a research station dedicated to Iceland’s only native land mammal, and stop at the Hvítanes seal colony, where harbor seals gather on coastal rocks between Hestfjörður and Skötufjörður fjords. After a final stop at the fast-flowing Gervidalsá waterfall, we make our way back toward Reykjavík, with drop-off at your original pick-up point in the evening.

Many hotels even offer a northern lights wake-up call upon request if the lights appear.

Still, as the northern lights are a natural phenomenon, we can’t guarantee a sighting. Their visibility depends on atmospheric and weather conditions.
