Deposits

When booking a trip, you can either pay for it in full or reserve your spot with a 30% deposit. The remaining 70% of the trip price is to be paid 90 days prior to departure, at the latest.

Cancellations

After 48 hours, booking fees are non-refundable in all cases. You can choose one of 57hours’ flexibility options:

Basic
  • In case of cancellation within 48 hours after booking, the amount paid is fully refundable.
  • For cancellations 60 or more days before the trip, you are eligible for a 70% refund of the trip price.
  • For cancellations 0-59 days before the trip, there is no refund.
  • Booking fees are non-refundable after 48 hours grace period.
Flexible
  • In case of cancellation within 48 hours after booking, the amount paid is fully refundable.
  • For cancellations 60 or more days before the trip, you are eligible for a full refund of the trip price.

  • Immerse yourself in the heart of Andalusia with this 5-day winter walking holiday in Spain that blends history, nature, and culture. With three days of leisurely guided walks, we’ll explore stunning landscapes, from the snow-capped Sierra Nevada to blooming almond orchards. We’ll visit historic villages, walk along ancient trails, and discover hidden gems like Gerald Brennan’s hillside retreat. This easy-paced journey includes cozy accommodation, delicious regional meals, and transfers to and from the airport.

    • We’ll pick you up from the Malaga airport. We’ll then transfer to the hotel in Cádiar for welcome drinks and a nice dinner.

      Granada in Andalusia, Spain
    • We’ll transfer to the Barranco Oscuro vineyard where we’ll start our walk down the Contraviesa mountain range. Walking downhill all day, we will pass through almond orchards in full bloom with snow-capped Sierra Nevada as the backdrop. Later on, we’re walking back to the hotel.

      Hiking: 10 km / 6.2 mi (14 km / 8.7 mi with extension on an optional, longer hike)

      Contraviesa in Granada
    • A 20-minute transfer from the hotel takes us to the village of Juviles. We will join the GR7 trail and follow it down the spectacular gorge of El Fuerte. We’ll visit the place of the longest siege in the Moorish conquest, and after that, we will walk through the village of Timar, and then contour along an ancient Acequia (water canal) for lunch at the village of Lobras. In the afternoon, we’ll walk back to the hotel.

      Hiking: 10 km / 6.2 mi (16 km / 10 mi with extension on an optional, longer hike)

    • On Day 4, we’ll walk from the hotel along a dry river bed which takes us to the small village of Yator, where we’ll have a coffee break. From here, we’ll walk uphill on a vehicle track to the hamlet of Monte Negro before we get to the village of Yegen, where we can see the 1920s home of the Hispanista Gerald Brennan. Later on, we’ll transfer back to the hotel for a nice dinner.

    • It’s our last day on the tour. After breakfast, we’ll transfer you to the airport in Malaga and say our goodbyes.

    • This winter walking holiday in Spain is rated easy. You must be able to walk for 4-5 hours with some uphills and downhills on good paths, meaning that a basic level of fitness is required. Check out the itinerary to learn day-by-day distances and elevation gains.

    • Here’s a list of the equipment you need to bring:

        • Day pack large enough to carry all the items listed (around a 25-40L bag)
        • Water bottle or hydration bladder (2L capacity)
        • Hiking poles
        • Lightweight hiking boots or shoes, preferably worn-in and not brand new
        • Comfortable hiking clothes, shorts, and t-shirts
        • Spare clothes for layering
        • Waterproof rain jacket
        • Warm jacket, fleece etc.
        • Sunhat
        • Toiletries (sunscreen, hand sanitizer, bug spray, blister plasters, toilet paper, etc.)
        • Headlamp or flashlight

        • Camera — optional (but recommended)

      Dress comfortably and for the weather in clothes you can move in. We suggest bringing clothing appropriate for the season. Layers are best and don’t wear jeans.

    • The weather is usually dry and sunny at this time of the year. The temperatures will be good for walking, around 18°C (64.4°F) in the sunshine, but at night it will be quite colder.

    • Group sizes and pricing

        • For this winter walking holiday in Spain, the usual client-to-guide ratio is 8:1.
        • It takes a minimum of 3 people for this tour to operate. The maximum group size is set at 8-12 participants.

      Hiking in Spain can be arranged for larger groups. Contact us to make arrangements.

      Min. age requirements

        • If you are older than 18, you’re good to go.
        • Minors younger than 18 may be permitted to join the hike on a case-by-case basis, but must be in the presence of a parent or legal guardian.

      If your group has hikers under the age of 18, contact us prior to booking to make arrangements.

    • The starting point of your winter walking holiday in Spain is Malaga. To get there, most people fly into Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport (AGP / LEMG). From there, you’ll be transferred to the hotel in Cádiar in the Alpujarra region.

      Once you’re there, you will meet your guide at a predetermined time. More info will be provided by the guides before the start of the trip.
