Once you arrive, transfer from the airport to the first accommodation in Santiago del Teide on Tenerife, where we will stay for two nights.

This 85-km trek is something else. It’s all about the volcanoes. It will take us from the Teno Rural Park, via the Chinyero Volcano, all the way to the Cañadas Del Teide. We will walk it all in 5 days, visiting places that you’d otherwise never see. We’ll walk through versatile landscapes, such as laurel and pine forests, volcanic areas, across the barren plains. We’ll stay at authentic, small-scale mountain hotels, and have a great time.

The first hiking day: we’ll walk a total distance of 11 km (7 miles). The route is not too difficult. We will walk a gradually ascending road towards the picturesque Masca valley, on paths with spectacular views. This is a nice day trip to acclimatize.

On the second stage of this tour we’ll walk to Chinyero, the youngest volcano on the island, that last erupted in 1909. The area around the volcano offers an intriguing mix of volcanic landscapes and vegetation. Step by step we will be getting closer to the Teide area. We will spend the night in one of our special accommodations.

Elevation: +660 m up / -420 m down (+2,165 ft up / -1,380 ft down)

Once we leave our lovely accommodation, we’ll walk further up to the Teide area. From there you’ll be able to see in the distance where we’ll be going today. It’s a long route with the necessary elevation gain. We’ll climb up through the forest until we reach the tree line. Once we reach the end point, we’ll be transferred to the oldest hotel in Vilaflor, where we’ll stay for the next two nights.

Elevation: +960 m up / -70 m down (+3,150 ft up / -230 ft down)

We will be transferred and dropped off at Parador Cañadas del Teide. Walking further on, we’ll enter one of the most beautifully varied nature reserves in Tenerife, with a view of El Teide summit. Afterwards, we’ll descend to Vilaflor, slowly reaching the tree line again and walking back to our hotel. Fun fact: at 1,400 meters, Vilaflor is the highest village in Spain.

Hiking: 18 km (11 miles)
Elevation: +470 m up / -1,200 m down (+1,540 ft up / -4,000 ft down)

This is the last day of hiking. From Vilaflor we’ll walk downhill, towards Arona, finding our way between the pine trees. The journey is now complete! You’ll get transferred to El Medano where a lovely hotel awaits you.

Elevation: +670 m up / -1400 m down (+2,200 ft up / -4,600 ft down)

Spend time on a beach, take a surfing lesson, or stroll through the shops and terraces. This is your free day, enjoy it any way you like.

Time to say goodbye to Tenerife. We’ll have you transferred to the airport. Should you decide to stay longer, just let us know, and we’ll arrange that for you and recommend places and activities.

If you want to do any additional activities mentioned in the itinerary, like the expedition to the top of El Teide, make sure to notify your guides in advance.
Also, if you want to stay in Tenerife for longer, your guides can arrange that for you. Make sure to contact them in advance and inquire about the possibilities.
To participate in this trip, you need to have great fitness levels and prior multi-day hiking experience. You will hike for 6-8 hours a day, covering an average of 17 km / 10.5 miles every day (11-21 km / 7-13 miles) for 5 consecutive days. The hiking will be done on unpaved paths with significant elevation change. If you want to enjoy this adventure, good conditioning is a must.

Your guides recommend that you take out mountaineering or mountain sports insurance. This is important because the hike will take you through remote and difficult-to-reach areas.
Dress comfortably and for the weather in clothes you can move in. We suggest bringing clothing appropriate for the season. Layers are best and don’t wear jeans.

To get to Tenerife, most people fly into Tenerife South Airport, also known as Reina Sofia Airport. It is accessible by direct flight from most larger European airports.
From the airport, you will be transferred to the first accommodation in Santiago del Teide, the starting point of the tour, at the pre-arranged time.
We highly recommend that you cover all your bases with both emergency medical and travel insurance.
With medical insurance, if you have an accident or medical emergency on or off the mountain, you’ll avoid paying out of pocket for costly expenses. This covers everything from hospital treatments to emergency air transportation and more. Travel insurance covers canceled flights, natural disasters and other scenarios that may interrupt your travel plans. Your guides recommend that you take out mountaineering or mountain sports insurance. This is important because the hike will take you through remote and difficult-to-reach areas.
