Skye Wilderness Safaris
  • Explore the Old Man of Storr, the highest point of the island, on an 8-hour hiking tour led by your local guide. Embarking from the remote village of Peinaha, you’ll continue your long uphill walk to the Trotternish Ridge, where you’ll take in the best panoramic views of the peninsula. After hiking to two rocky peaks, the Hill of the Red Fox and Hartaval, you’ll arrive at one of the most recognizable parts of the Scottish wilderness—the Old Man himself, a jaggy outcrop overlooking the peninsula. After conquering the 800 meters of vertical ascent, you’ll admire the panorama and finish your 10-mile (16-kilometer) hike with a downhill walk.

    • 57hours is committed to providing safe outdoor adventure experiences. We require all guides using our platform to have a COVID-19 safety plan and to make the details of that plan accessible to travelers. In most cases, group sizes will be reduced, guides will avoid overcrowded locations, and other safety measures will be met depending on the location and activity.

We also expect clients to respect local regulations and take measures to protect themselves, guides and the communities they’re traveling to. For more information on COVID-19 measures in Scotland, please refer to the Scottish Government’s COVID-19 updates.

Please contact us if you have any questions or require further information. We are happy to provide you with the most up-to-date information!

    • What you get on this adventure:

        • An experienced, local hiking guide with extensive knowledge of the area
        • A full day of hiking
        • Transportation from the meeting point to the hiking trail and from the trail to the drop off point

      What’s not included:

        • Food
        • Accommodation
        • Transportation
        • Personal equipment
    • Isle of Skye hiking tours are moderately difficult, but it all depends on your hiking experience and fitness level. You need to be able to hike for a full day and walk through different terrains. There’s no need to be an Olympic athlete since you’ll move along the hiking trail at a comfortable pace, but keep in mind that you’ll be walking for around 10 miles (16 kilometers) over varied terrain and inclines. Please note that the Isle of Skye hiking routes are not suitable for sufferers of vertigo.

    • Here’s a list of the equipment you need to bring:

        • Day pack large enough to carry all the items listed (around a 25-40L bag)
        • Hiking poles — optional
        • Water bottle or hydration bladder (2L capacity)
        • Lightweight hiking boots or shoes
        • Spare clothes for layering
        • Waterproof rain jacket
        • Sunhat
        • Toiletries (sunscreen, hand sanitizer, bug spray, toilet paper, etc.)
        • Sunglasses
        • Camera — optional (but recommended)

Dress comfortably and for the weather in clothes you can move in. We suggest bringing clothing appropriate for the season. Layers are best and don’t wear jeans.

    • Group sizes and prices:

        • For these private tours, the maximum client to guide ratio is 6:1.
        • The cost per person decreases as the group grows, so it’s the perfect opportunity to hike with friends and family!

Isle of Skye hiking tours can be arranged for larger groups. Contact us to make arrangements.

      Min. age requirements:

        • If you are older than 16, you’re good to go.
        • Children as young as 12 are permitted to join the hike on a case-by-case basis, but only in the presence of a parent or legal guardian.

If your group has hikers under the age of 16, contact us prior to booking to make arrangements.

    • To get to the Isle of Skye, most people fly into Glasgow Airport five hours from the Isle of Skye. Once you get there, you can rent a car or take a bus to the meeting point.

You’ll meet your guides in the center of Portree, the largest town on the island. Transportation from the meeting and drop-off point to the Isle of Skye hiking trails is included in the hiking tour.
