  • Can’t think of a single reason why your next vacation shouldn’t be in Italy? Neither can we. This week-long cycling journey through the Prosecco Hills of northeastern Italy is just a few clicks away. With this self-guided tour, all your worries will disappear—accommodation, breakfasts, luggage and airport transfers, as well as maps and navigation, that’s all taken care of. This tour will take you through both bucolic landscapes as well as to the Adriatic Sea. You’ll spend your days leisurely pedaling, tasting Italian dishes, and sipping on a glass of prosecco. Salute!

    • Following your arrival in Venice Airport, you will be transferred to the charming town of Treviso (30-minute ride). With its meandering waterways and a tranquil atmosphere, it’s a wonderful starting point. You’ll be provided with a roadbook and all the information you will need before your guiding company drops you off to start your self-guided tour.

There should be time to explore the town before enjoying an evening meal in one of the great local restaurants. With a glass of bubbles in hand, we’ll discuss the days to come and provide you with all the information you’ll need for the duration of your trip.

      Accommodation: 3 or 4-star hotel

      Treviso, town in Italy
    • Leaving Treviso behind you, you will ride past the countryside towards the Montello hills, sitting below the Piave River. This area was home to battles during the Austria-Hungarian war, and there’s a monument below the hill commemorating the events. You’ll then go to the ruins of Sant’Eustachio Abbey before embarking on a great route in the foothills of the Montello. This tree-lined water course is a classic ride for locals!

En route to Asolo, you’ll admire the imposing Palladian Villa of Maser. Now part of UNESCO World Heritage, it’s one of the most admired works by Venetian architect Palladio. Following a quick refuel, get ready for the only real climb of the day, the ride up to Asolo. Designated as one of the most beautiful towns in Italy due to its position on the top of the hill, Asolo has always been a magnet for artists and writers. Following a drink and a stroll around town and the main piazza, the last section of our ride is a sweeping descent to our hotel.

    • The route today will take you towards the Piave River, cycling through the rolling hills of Ezzelini and the Colli Asolani. Once you’ve crossed the Piave River, you’ll find yourself surrounded by lush vineyards, and it’ll be clear you’ve entered the heart of the Prosecco region.

The route to Follina and Valmarino will follow the higher road from Valdobbiadene, with Prosecco vineyards extending on the steep hills below us. Upon arrival at your accommodation, your host will welcome us with a glass of one of the best Prosecco wines, on the house, from the vineyards you have just cycled through. Nothing like a refreshing local wine that’s been produced within 20 kms of your accommodation!

    • Today’s ride is quintessential Prosecco! The riding starts along a valley separated by the high Monti dei Visentini and the lush rolling hills of Prosecco. Then you’ll start climbing, with woods giving way to vineyard after vineyard, with many stops for pics while meandering up and down the valleys. Stopping at Molinetto della Croda is a must, with a water mill set below a picturesque waterfall.

Looping west through Compea, you’ll find endless vineyards, with over 100 wine producers, including Conegliano Valdobbiadene producing Prosecco Superiore DOCG, and the exclusive DOCG Cartizze sparkling wine. Following lunch, you’ll continue the ride towards Follina and its Abbey before returning to your accommodation. There’s an optional 15-mile (25 km) ride in the afternoon, along the valley to small lakes near Ravine, Lago di St Maria and Lago di Lago. You’ll loop around the lakes, so feel free to go for a dip and soak up the sun.

The first castle of Collalto di Susegana, whose tower and bastions remain after WWI bombings, and then you’ll move onto Castello di San Salvatore, whose imposing walls and towers tell a tale of great imposing dominance in the region.

As you head back to Nervesa della Battaglia, the route heads south through the countryside back to Treviso, where you can enjoy an evening meal together.

This lovely river-side trail goes through lush green woods, past small inlets thriving with river bird life, watermills, castles, and small villages. You can stop in villages to explore and enjoy a coffee break.

After crossing the lock at Portegrandi, the cycle path enters the lagunar eaves, which runs for 11 km until the Sile flows into the old Piave at Caposile. You’ll finally reach Jesolo and enjoy your final stretch along a canal lined with traditional fishing huts, leading you down to the busy coastal resort area—just in time for celebratory drinks! Terrain and roads

        • This self-guided tour is ideal for those looking for an easy going route. The route uses a variety of roads (including both single lanes and quiet double roads) and cycle paths (some paved, some gravel).
        • Approx. 85% of the route is on roads shared with vehicle traffic (some with a separated cycle lane), with around 5% of the route on mixed use paths (cyclists, pedestrians, but no motor traffic). Most roads are quiet, but there will be some busier roads, especially when cycling through built up areas and bigger towns like Treviso and Jesolo.
        • Prosecco is a hilly region, so short climbs and descents can be expected. Day 4 will pose the biggest challenge with undulations throughout the day.
        • Hybrid bikes are recommended for this tour. Gravel and e-bikes are also suitable. E-bikes will make the cheeky climbs a bit more manageable! It’s also a good option when it comes to the warm summer months. E-bikes are generally heavier than hybrid bikes, which is worth bearing in mind if needing to lift the bike up or down steps or over cobbles in some of the towns.
    • Here’s what you’ll need:

        • Bike — available to rent
        • Helmet — available to rent
        • Comfortable, season-appropriate riding or athletic clothing, preferably moisture wicking or synthetic material
        • Padded shorts
        • Peaked helmet
        • Sneakers or sport shoes
        • Breathable outside layer or jacket
        • Sunglasses
        • Plenty of water, water bottle or hydration bladder
        • Daypack with snacks
        • Biking gloves are optional but recommended
        • Toiletries (sunscreen, hand sanitizer, bug spray, toilet paper, etc.)

Dress comfortably and for the weather in clothes you can move in. We suggest bringing clothing appropriate for the season. Layers are best and don’t wear jeans.

    • If you don’t own a suitable bike or would prefer to avoid bringing your own, your guides have bikes available to rent. These will typically be Cross Travel hybrid bikes for $310. The bikes may have a high cross bar or step through frame, depending on the size needed. If opting for an e-bike, this will typically be a Lombardo Roma 9.0 (or equivalent) for $505.

Rental bikes will be provided with a pannier rack and 1 bag, a tool kit, a spare inner tube, a bike lock, a bike pump, and a phone mount.

If you choose to bring your own e-bike, on any of departures, please contact us so we can discuss the bike specification and ensure it is suitable for the tour.

Helmets can be provided locally on request. If you would like us to organise this please request a helmet at the time of booking.

    • A self-guided tour is an independent exploration without a formal guide leading the way. Instead of being part of a group with a tour leader, you will navigate the tour yourself, using resources provided by the operator, such as maps, guidebooks, audio guides, or digital apps.

By going on this self-guided Prosecco bike tour, you’ll have lots of things arranged for you, making your cycling experience a lot less stressful and a lot more enjoyable:

        • accommodation at 3 and 4-star hotels (upgrades to 5-star hotels possible)

        • airport transfers
        • app for information and navigation
        • luggage transfers
        • local representative for a welcome meeting

After you get transferred to Treviso and once you’ve talked to a local representative, the self-guided tour starts! Keep in mind that your guides offer support along the way should you need anything.

    • Group sizes and pricing

        • For this Prosecco bike tour, the maximum group size is generally set to 15 participants.
        • It takes a minimum of 2 people for this self-guided tour to operate.
