  • Round up your friends and family and take them on an extremely challenging, but even more rewarding downhill ride on the world-famous Porcupine Rim. If you’re an experienced mountain biker, you’re in for a treat – Porcupine Rim’s bone-chilling heights and great technical sections are sure to keep you on your toes. And when you feel like taking a break, you can pause and enjoy the remarkable views of Castle Valley, Castleton Tower, and the Colorado River. Your private expert guide will be there to make sure you’re safe, so don’t worry and ride your heart out!

PREREQUISITES: Anybody who tries to book this tour will need to go through an additional vetting email from the guide. Riders can expect exposure on the trails, in addition to features that could be bigger than knee-high. Porcupine Rim is high elevation and has some steep climbing, depending on the trailhead the shuttles take riders to; it is the most remote trail in Moab.

    • 57hours is committed to providing safe outdoor adventure experiences. We require all guides using our platform to have a COVID-19 safety plan and to make the details of that plan accessible to travelers. In most cases, group sizes will be reduced, guides will avoid overcrowded locations, and other safety measures will be met depending on the location and activity.

We also expect clients to respect local regulations and take measures to protect themselves, their guides, and the communities they’re traveling to. For more information on COVID-19 measures in Porcupine Rim, Utah, please refer to the official Utah COVID-19 update website.

Please contact us if you have any questions or require further information. We are happy to provide you with the most up-to-date information!

    • You will need to be able to bike between six and seven hours, depending on the itinerary you choose. After booking, your guide will determine the group’s skill level and capabilities and cater the day to your specific abilities. Keep in mind that biking on advanced tracks for a full day is extremely strenuous and requires a very high level of fitness.

    • These tours are suitable for experienced mountain bikers only, with excellent fitness and strong bike handling skills. The riding is primarily done on rough doubletrack with frequent obstacles or high elevation singletrack. Sections of the trail can be very challenging, with frequent ascents and descents of significant length. Most of these advanced-level tours are located at elevations ranging from 8,000 to 12,000 feet, where trail conditions can change rapidly due to weather conditions and thunderstorms.

    • Here’s what you’ll need:

        • Wear comfortable riding or athletic clothing, preferably moisture-wicking or synthetic material
        • Sneakers or sport shoes
        • Breathable outside layer or jacket
        • Sunglasses
        • Plenty of water, water bottle, or hydration bladder
        • Daypack with snacks
        • Biking gloves are optional but recommended
        • Bike repair kit
        • Toiletries (sunscreen, hand sanitizer, bug spray, toilet paper, etc.)
    • Group sizes and prices:

        • The group size for these tours is usually between 1–6 people with one guide. Groups can have up to 24 participants with several guides.
        • Costs per person decrease as the group grows, so it’s the perfect opportunity to ride with friends and family.
        • Standard tours require a minimum of 2 people to run. If you are a party of one, and if you are willing to pay the solo rate, your guide will guarantee that your tour runs – even if you end up being the only person on it. If, after making your reservation, someone else joins your tour, your rate will automatically drop to the 2-3 person rate.

Mountain biking in Porcupine Rim can be arranged for bigger groups. Contact us prior to booking.

      Min. age requirements:

        • If you are older than 18, you’re good to go.
        • Minors younger than 18 may be permitted to join the tour on a case-by-case basis.

If your group has riders under the age of 18, contact us prior to booking to make arrangements.

    • To get to Porcupine Rim, most people fly into Salt Lake City International Airport. From there, you can take a shuttle or rent a car for a 4,5-hour drive to Moab. You can also fly into Denver International Airport and take a direct local flight to Moab, or take a local flight to Grand Junction Colorado Airport and rent a car or take a shuttle for a 2-hour drive to Moab.

Once you and your guide agree on the details of your itinerary, your guide will suggest the best place to meet, whether that’s at the guide shop in Moab or a predetermined location.
