  • Uncover the raw beauty of the Guatemalan wilderness on foot, bike, and kayak. Spend 8 days roaming the cobblestone streets of colonial Antigua, pedaling through colorful villages, exploring a magnificent lake of Atitlan, and climbing two active volcanoes! Meet the locals, stay in scenic colonial hotels, and delve deep into Guatemala’s fascinating culture and cuisine.

    • Arrive at Guatemala City airport, and meet your driver right outside customs. They will take you to Hotel Casa Antigua, a quaint, colonial-style hotel only 3 minutes away from Parque Central. Rest up and, if you happened to arrive early, take the time to explore the city’s historical cobblestone streets and Mayan heritage sites. Meet your guides at 6:30 pm in your hotel lobby for a welcome dinner.

    • After a filling breakfast among the hotel’s lush gardens, accompany your guide to the offices where your bike awaits. Enjoy a full day of biking through Antigua’s scenic surrounding towns. Ride a mix of singletracks and cobblestone roads, with great views of colonial towns and coffee farms. Visit an artisanal chocolate shop, an iconic macadamia farm, and a traditional textile market, and meet some friendly locals before heading back to your hotel.

    • Starting early, drive out to Panchoy Valley and through the lowlands of Guatemala’s Pacific slope to the base of Pacaya Volcano. Embark on a warm-up hike up one of Guatemala’s most active volcanoes, which erupted over 20 times since the Spanish arrived. Explore dried lava fields and lunar landscapes before toasting marshmallows in the active heat vents! Return to Antigua to check out the local market, cafes, restaurants, or bar scene.

    • Ready for one of the best adventure tours in Central America? Jump on your bike and descend about 600 m (2000 ft) while taking in one-of-a-kind views of Lake Atitlan and its surrounding volcanoes. Have a picnic lunch at a lookout point before riding into the lakeside town of Panajachel. Explore the local markets before taking a boat ride to your lakefront hotel, perched on the cliffside and only accessible by hike or boat.

    • Wake up to gorgeous views of the lake and its towering volcanoes, before embarking on an open-water kayaking adventure on Lake Atitlan’’s deep volcanic waters. Paddle along the northern shore and between the towering hills for a couple of hours, before switching your paddle for hiking shoes and walking the cliffside trails high above the lake. This concludes the biking, kayaking, and trekking trilogy on lake Atitlan.

    • Start your morning with a scenic transport up Acatenango’s slopes, and into the small, sleepy mountain village of La Soledad (2390 m/ 7,840 ft). Embark on a five-hour hike through a myriad of changing microclimates, before retiring to a private campsite cut into the side of Acatenango and overlooking the nearby Fuego Volcano. Fuego is the most constantly erupting volcano in recorded history, and you will have plenty of time to appreciate the incredible sights and sounds of its eruptions during the night.

      Elevation: +1,200 m / 3,940 ft

    • Rise early to watch the sun rise over the Antigua Valley before starting your last push to Acatenango’s summit (3,975 m / 13,040 ft). Ascend a sand and gravel scree trail dotted with dwarf pines and incredible viewpoints. Atop the summit, enjoy unparalleled 360-degree views of the entirety of the Guatemalan Highlands, stretching all the way to Mexico. After a 3-hour hike down to the local community of La Soledad, get transported back to Antigua, where you’ll enjoy a free afternoon. Explore, do some last-minute shopping, or try the local fine dining options.

    • What you get on this adventure:

    • You don’t have to be an expert hiker for this multisport adventure in Guatemala, but you do need to be reasonably fit. The hikes will be beginner-to-intermediate level. You should be ready for up to 6 hours of hiking and 1,200 m (3,920 ft) of elevation gain on the toughest days. For the biking sections, you get to choose between singletrack and paved routes, overcoming distances of up to 28 km a day. Finally, kayaking will be short, sweet, and beginner friendly.

      Your guide supplies porters to carry the group’s kitchen gear and food. You will be expected to carry their gear, personal effect, and water on the treks. If you’re interested in porter services, your guide can contract a porter on your behalf. Porters can carry up to 30 lbs (14 kg) and cost $45 USD round-trip. If you wish to contract a porter, contact us to make arrangements.

      Dress comfortably and for the weather in clothes you can move in. We suggest bringing clothing appropriate for the season. Layers are best and don’t wear jeans.

    • Group sizes and prices:

        • For this group adventure, the usual client-to-guide ratio is 12:1. 
        • The cost does not decrease as the group grows. 

      Multisport tours in Guatemala can be arranged for larger groups. Contact us to make arrangements.

      Min. age requirements:

        • If you are older than 18, you’re good to go.
        • Minors younger than 18 may be permitted to join the hike on a case-by-case basis, but must be in the presence of a parent or legal guardian.

      If your group has hikers under the age of 18, contact us prior to booking to make arrangements.

    • To get to Antigua, Guatemala, the starting point of this tour, most people fly into La Aurora International Airport right outside Guatemala City. Once there, go through customs and meet your driver, who will be waiting for you right outside carrying a sign. Then, your driver will take you on a one-hour car ride to your hotel in Antigua, where you’ll meet your guide in the lobby at 6:30 pm.

    • 57hours is committed to providing safe outdoor adventure experiences. We require all guides using our platform to have a COVID-19 safety plan and to make the details of that plan accessible to travelers. In most cases, group sizes will be reduced, guides will avoid overcrowded locations, and other safety measures will be met depending on the location and activity.
