  • The Moselle & Rhine river bike and boat tour is an all-inclusive 8-day journey through Germany's most breathtaking river valleys, designed for travelers who want both activity and comfort. Gentle e-bike rides follow scenic, traffic-free paths past terraced vineyards, medieval castles, and historic wine villages, while a premium river ship—the SILVA—handles everything in between. With expert guides, full support, and a beautifully appointed floating hotel as your base, there's nothing left to organize.

    • We arrive in Cologne—one of Germany’s most storied cities, with Roman roots stretching back nearly 2,000 years. A shuttle transfer from Cologne Central Station to the pier in Cologne-Deutz is available at 3 pm, and at 4 pm we board the SILVA and gather for welcome drinks at the bar. At 5 pm, the ship sets sail upstream toward the confluence of the Moselle and Rhine near Koblenz. If the weather cooperates, we watch Cologne’s iconic cathedral and Romanesque church towers fade into the distance from the sun deck.

We cycle upstream along the scenic Moselle Bike Path through quiet wine villages to Müden, then head into the green Eltz Valley toward Burg Eltz—one of Germany’s most beautiful and best-preserved medieval castles. Time is set aside for a visit and a lunch break at the castle café or a picnic in the grounds, before we return along the river to the ship.

    • The day begins with a guided walk through picturesque Bernkastel-Kues, including a visit to the Cusanus Foundation—dedicated to the philosopher and cardinal Nicholas of Cusa, who was born here in the 15th century. Then it’s back on the e-bikes: steep vineyard terraces, the shimmering ribbon of the Moselle, and charming towns like Traben-Trarbach and Kröv make for an unforgettable ride. A riverside picnic with regional specialties rounds out the day, weather permitting.

    • The ship docks near a small wine village, where Roman villa ruins set the tone for the day ahead. We cycle from Mehring along the Moselle and into the tranquil Ruwer Valley, following a former railway line—now a well-maintained bike path—through vineyards and woodland. After a picnic lunch, a scenic descent leads into Trier, Germany’s oldest city and once an imperial Roman capital. A guided city tour takes us past the Porta Nigra, Roman baths, and other UNESCO-listed monuments.

We cross impressive viaducts, ride through long tunnels, and pass volcanic Eifel landscapes as the trail gradually descends back toward the Moselle. The final stretch from Bernkastel-Kues can be completed by bike or, for those who prefer, by support bus.

A basic to moderate level of fitness is all you need—you should enjoy being on a bike for a few hours, but there’s no expectation of high endurance or athletic training. With the help of e-bikes, which are included in the tour, longer distances feel much easier and more relaxed.

Over the course of the journey, the total cycling distance is around 261 km (162 miles), spread across six riding days, with the longest single stage reaching 58 km (36 miles). Routes follow scenic, traffic-free paths primarily along rivers or former railway lines—mostly flat with only minimal elevation changes. A support vehicle is always available, giving you the freedom to ride as much—or as little—as you like.
