  • Five days in the Caucasus, built around Kazbegi and everything that makes it special. We meet in Tbilisi and drive the Georgian Military Highway north, with a private wine tasting in Saguramo along the way. From there, it's three full days trekking a mix of alpine terrain, wide valleys, and dramatic ridgelines, with picnic lunches on the trail and a hands-on khinkali class worked in somewhere along the trip. Evenings are spent at a 4-star design hotel built into a former Soviet-era sanatorium, with Mount Kazbek in view and a pool and sauna waiting at the end of each day.

    • Arrive in Tbilisi, where a private transfer takes us north along the Georgian Military Highway, one of the most scenic drives in the country. We stop in Saguramo for a private wine tasting at a family-run cellar—a full Georgian meal, a pour of the family’s own wine, and a look at their Bronze Age archaeological collection. From there, we continue to Stepantsminda and check into the hotel, with a free evening to settle in.

      Meals: Lunch, dinner
      Accommodation: Rooms Hotel Kazbegi

    • After breakfast at the hotel, we head out for our first full day in the mountains. The route is decided that same morning based on weather, trail conditions, and how the group is feeling, with options including the alpine zone below Mount Kazbek, the wide open Truso Valley, or the ridgelines of the Juta and Chaukhi massif. We break for a picnic lunch on the trail and take our time with the scenery, returning to the hotel by late afternoon. For anyone with energy to spare, an optional khinkali masterclass with local hosts rounds out the evening.

    • Our second day in the mountains heads into a different valley from the day before, chosen the same way—based on conditions and how the group’s feeling. We stop for a picnic lunch along the way, and in the afternoon there’s an optional ride on horseback, a nice change of pace after two days on foot. The evening is free, with dinner and a relaxed night back at the hotel, Mount Kazbek visible from the windows as the light fades.

      Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
      Accommodation: Rooms Hotel Kazbegi

    • For our final day in the mountains, we either continue with a full valley trek or take a shorter half-day hike to Gveleti Waterfall followed by an afternoon on horseback, whichever suits the group best. If we haven’t already done the khinkali masterclass earlier in the trip, this is our chance to fold and cook the dumplings ourselves with local hosts. With nothing fixed for the evening, there’s time to relax at the hotel, use the pool and sauna, or just take in the view before an early night.

    • Our final morning is an easy one—a short walk, one last breakfast with Mount Kazbek in view, or simply time to sit with a coffee before the drive back. We retrace the Georgian Military Highway to Tbilisi, with an optional stop in Saguramo for the wine tasting if we haven’t done it already on arrival. The trip wraps up with a drop-off at Tbilisi International Airport.

    • A great thing about this Georgia trekking tour is that it’s ideal for all skill levels and fitness needs, from easy & beginner to challenging. Locations for each trekking day are approximate—the local guide team chooses the exact route that morning based on weather, trail conditions, and how the group is feeling, so the difficulty can be fully adapted to you and your group’s preference.

    • There’s plenty happening off the trail too: a wine tasting steeped in Bronze Age history, a hands-on cooking class, and a guide who knows the region inside out.

The Saguramo wine experience. Between the valleys, there’s a private stop in Saguramo — a village on the route between Tbilisi and Kazbegi, so it fits naturally on either the arrival or departure day. The host family there has kept a private collection of Bronze Age artifacts (3500–2500 BC), a rare, generations-deep record of Georgia’s mountain history. The visit includes:

        • A homemade wine tasting in their traditional cellar
        • A full Georgian lunch or dinner with the host family
        • A private viewing of the family’s Bronze Age archaeological collection
        • A bottle of their wine to take home

The khinkali masterclass. Back in Kazbegi, there’s a hands-on session with local hosts where you’ll learn to fold and cook Georgia’s most iconic dumpling yourself, not just eat it.

Your guide. A local Georgian guide is with you the whole way, happy to talk mountains, history, and everything in between.

Horseback riding. For a change of pace from walking, horse riding can replace one trekking day or run as an afternoon add-on, with routes and durations matched to your group’s experience and the day’s weather. Rides take in the Arsha valley, the Sno valley, and the lower slopes around Stepantsminda, on mountain-bred horses.
