Cancellation policy

The percentages in the table above are of the full trip price, not of what you’ve paid at the time of booking.

Cancellations made within 48 hours of booking receive a full refund on all plans, including booking fees and insurance. After the 48-hour window, your refund depends on your selected protection plan and when you cancel. Core and Premium plans extend your cancellation rights beyond the Standard policy:

  • With Core, a covered reason gets you 75% of your trip cost back — even the day before you go.
  • With Premium, a covered reason gets you 100% of your trip cost back — and any other reason gets you 75%, right up to the day you leave.
What counts as a covered reason
  • Sudden illness or injury — yours, a travel companion’s, or an immediate family member’s, confirmed by a doctor
  • Death of a traveler or an immediate family member
  • A natural disaster affecting your destination or your departure point
  • A government travel advisory against travel to your destination

Changing your mind isn’t a covered reason. Premium is the only plan that covers that. Documentation is required for all insurance claims.

Everything the travel insurance covers

Both plans include travel insurance through Redpoint Travel Protection. Core insures 75% of your trip cost; Premium insures 100%.

Maximum per person:

  • Trip cancellation — up to 100% of your trip cost
  • Cancel for any reason — up to 75% of your trip cost (Premium only)
  • Trip interruption — 150% of the trip cost limit
  • Trip delay — $200 a day, $1,000 max
  • Itinerary change — $250
  • Single occupancy supplement — up to 100% of trip cost
  • Missed connection — $1,000
  • Travel inconvenience — $250 each, $750 max
  • Pet return — $1,000 per pet
  • Baggage and personal effects — $2,500, max $300 an item
  • Baggage delay — $600, after 12 hours
  • Baggage delivery — $100 per trip
  • Emergency medical expenses — $100,000
  • Medical evacuation and repatriation — up to $1,000,000

These are maximums. What a claim actually pays depends on what you can document and on the policy’s exclusions — pre-existing conditions and undeclared activities among them. We’ll send the full policy wording with your confirmation.

  • This is a 12-day kayaking liveaboard experience aboard the Jakare boat. If you're short on time, there's also a 9-day version aboard the Jakare boat available.

We don’t use the word paradise lightly—but this is as close as you can get to it on Earth, and you’ll find it in Indonesia. Raja Ampat is a wondrous archipelago of thousands of islands straddling the equator, countless of which you’ll sail through over the course of 12 days on your luxurious yacht. The best way to witness Raja Ampat’s unique limestone formations and seascape is by paddling and diving—and that’s exactly what your days will be filled with. Along with your expert guides, attentive crew, and an incredible team, you’ll want to stay here forever!

    • We meet you at Sorong airport and head straight to the port, where our sailing vessel is waiting. If you arrive early, send us your hotel details and we’ll arrange a pickup and transfer to the boat. Once everyone is aboard, we go through crew introductions, a trip briefing, and a boat and kayak safety orientation. Then we set course southwest for the Misool Islands, a remote cluster in the southern reaches of Raja Ampat, a region famous for some of the richest marine biodiversity on the planet. There may even be time for a first dive and snorkel.

      Meals: Lunch, dinner
      Accommodation: Jakare boat

      Jakare liveaboard
    • We wake up among the southernmost islands of the trip, deep in Misool territory. The morning and afternoon outings are both dedicated to Wayil Island. We trade the deck for kayaks and dive gear, exploring the island’s shoreline from the surface and its reefs from below.

      Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner
      Accommodation: Jakare boat

Group of kayakers in Raja Ampat, Indonesia.
    • A short transfer brings us to Segaf Island. From here, we spend the morning and afternoon excursions exploring the islands scattered around this corner of Misool.

      Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner
      Accommodation: Jakare boat

Underwater world of the coral triangle, Raja Ampat, Indonesia.
    • After another short transit, we reach Balbulol Island, one of the most striking corners of Misool. Amazing lagoons, sheer cliff walls, and towering karst pillars are all ours to explore. The area also has numerous world-class dive spots, so there is plenty to discover both above and below the waterline.

      Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner
      Accommodation: Jakare boat

Raja Ampat and karst formations, Indonesia.
    • A short cruise takes us to Lenkafal, the next island in the Misool chain. We’re dropped off at its southeastern tip for a longer outing and explore the island’s many nooks and crannies before rejoining the ship in time for lunch. In the afternoon, we explore the rest of Lenkafal by kayak and snorkel. There’s no diving today, so it’s all about the paddle and the view from the surface.

      Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner
      Accommodation: Jakare boat

      raja ampat aerial shot
    • A short cruise will take us to the “Thousand Temple Islets,” where we’ll spend the day exploring this maze of intricate islands in every shape and size. We’ll paddle over shallow reefs and deep lagoons, beneath archways, and through hidden limestone passages.

      Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner
      Accommodation: Jakare boat

    • Over these 2 days, we will continue to explore the Thousand Temple Islets. In the afternoon, we’ll make our way north to the Northern Islands of Raja Ampat.

      Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner
      Accommodation: Jakare boat

Kayak and multisport tour in Raja Ampat.
    • We will arrive near Pef Island mid morning of day 9. Our morning paddle will be an exploration of Hidden Lagoon, where we seem to discover something new every time we are here. Our afternoon kayak will be a meandering paddle through Pef Island, with limestone cliffs, mangrove passages, and beautiful outer waters views.

      Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner
      Accommodation: Jakare boat

      Jakare yacht dining
    • We’ll head to the southern shore of Gam Island and paddle into Mangrove Lagoon, winding through its maze of mangrove channels until we reach three inland marine lakes. Here, we’ll keep an eye out for dugongs—up to twelve have been spotted in the area. On the far side of the lakes, we’ll enter another network of mangrove passages that eventually lead us back to the open ocean, where the yacht will be waiting.

      Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner
      Accommodation: Jakare boat

      kayaking raja ampat indonesia
    • Today, we’ll explore Kabui Bay, weaving our way through hundreds of limestone islands. This maze of islands and passageways creates a circular route, leading us back to meet the yacht where we began. Along the way, we’ll visit an island with ancient petroglyphs etched into its cliffs. Tonight, we sail back to Sorong and enjoy a final group dinner onboard.

      Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner
      Accommodation: Jakare boat

      Couple kayaking in Raja Ampat.
    • We pull into Sorong overnight, so we wake up already docked in the harbor. After a farewell breakfast, we pack up, say goodbye to the crew, and transfer to the airport. Morning flights are no problem, since we can have you at the airport as early as 6 am. Everyone needs to be off the boat by 10 am so the crew can get ready for the next departure.

      Meals: Breakfast

      Leisure deck Jakare

    • Raja Ampat has its own microclimate. It doesn’t follow the same seasonal patterns as the rest of Indonesia. Bali, Java, and Lombok have a pronounced wet season from roughly November through March, but Raja Ampat doesn’t work that way. Sitting close to the equator in Southwest Papua, it gets rain year-round in short tropical bursts rather than prolonged monsoon weather.

Trips run from November through February, and conditions stay pretty much the same across the whole season. Temperature, rainfall, wind, and cloud cover don’t really change. What does shift is underwater visibility, so your guides may tweak the itinerary slightly to find the best spots for snorkeling and diving.

Don’t trust the forecast. Weather apps predict rain and thunderstorms all day, every day here, because the algorithms can’t predict equatorial squalls. That’s simply not what it’s like on the water.

Expect heat and humidity. Temperatures hover around 30°C (86°F) day and night, humidity is high, and the sun is fierce. Squalls tend to roll through in the heat of the afternoon, bringing strong winds, rain, thunder, and lightning. There can be some swell on longer crossings and some wind while paddling, but with the liveaboard as a base, it’s easy to find protected waters or do downwind runs.

The water is warm, around 29°C (84°F). It gets cooler at depth, so a shortie wetsuit (provided on board) comes in handy on longer dives of up to an hour.

    • This kayak & multisport adventure in Raja Ampat is beginner-friendly, so if you’re generally active and have an adventurous spirit, you’ll enjoy this trip.

Kayaking is the main activity of this trip. The aim is to have two kayaking outings a day, always led by a kayak guide. The waters are calm and protected, with some dynamic paddling, but overall, the pace is relaxed. You’ll paddle single and double touring kayaks (not sit-on-tops) with rudders and bow and stern hatches. Non-swimmers are welcome to join the kayaking.

Raja Ampat offers some incredible diving opportunities, but you’ll need a valid dive certification and dive insurance to dive on this trip. Certification courses and discovery dives aren’t available on board.

Snorkeling is included on every outing, and no prior experience is needed. A snorkel guide joins every outing, and masks, snorkels, fins, wetsuits, and flotation devices are provided free of charge. You don’t need to be a strong swimmer to take part.

This adventure is truly flexible. You’re free to kayak, dive, snorkel, or just relax on the boat or shore. Your guides are also happy to accommodate special needs or mobility issues. Whatever your fitness level or preference, there’s something for everyone to enjoy!

    • Good fit if:

        • You want a real active adventure—twice-daily kayaking, included snorkeling, and optional diving for certified divers—rather than a single-activity trip
        • You’re a beginner who wants real ocean time without needing prior kayaking or diving experience
        • You’re comfortable with liveaboard life: a small group of up to 10 guests, a fixed daily rhythm, and genuine remoteness from Sorong onward
        • You want to see one of the most biodiverse marine regions on the planet—1,200+ fish species and real potential for dugong sightings in Gam Island’s mangrove lagoon
        • You want the whole boat to yourselves (Teman only): charter the Teman for one fixed price and bring up to 10 people, like family, friends, or your dive club. There are no strangers on board, and your group sets the pace.

This is built for travelers who want ocean-based adventure without needing to already be an expert kayaker or diver—the format does the work of getting you into remote, biodiverse water, and the activity level scales to whichever combination of kayaking, snorkeling, and diving you actually want.

    • No, kayaking on this trip is beginner-friendly, run twice daily on calm, protected water, and open to non-swimmers with flotation assistance. You don’t need prior kayaking experience to book. Snorkeling is included on every outing with no certification required, also with flotation devices provided if you want them.

Diving is optional, and you need a PADI (or equivalent) certification and dive insurance to join. On the Teman only, certified divers get their first three dives included. On the Jakare, diving carries a trip surcharge.

    • Liability waivers are a standard part of all guided outdoor adventures. Recently, the requirements have become a bit more rigorous for ACMG guides—meaning that you’ll need to agree to the signing of the waiver at the time of booking.

Prior to booking, we ask you to review the waiver. During the checkout process, you’ll have to acknowledge the risks and agree to the signing of the waiver. You are required to bring a printed copy on the trip.

Please note that signing and agreeing to the terms of the waiver is required in order to join this adventure. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us prior to booking.

    • Here’s a list of the equipment you need to bring:

        • Day pack large enough to carry all the items listed (around a 25-40L bag)
        • Your own dive gear, if you prefer (masks, snorkels, fins, and wetsuits are provided; BCDs and regulators can be rented)
        • Dive certification card and completed PADI medical questionnaire — divers only
        • Water bottle or hydration bladder (2L capacity)
        • Long-sleeved rash guard and leggings (for sun and the occasional stinger)
        • Bathing suit
        • Lightweight hiking boots or shoes
        • Lightweight long-sleeved shirt and pants for time on shore
        • Spare clothes
        • Waterproof rain jacket
        • Sunhat
        • Toiletries (sunscreen, hand sanitizer, mosquito repellent, toilet paper, etc.)
        • Seasickness tablets — optional, if you’re prone to it
        • Headlamp or flashlight
        • Sunglasses
        • Camera — optional (but recommended)
        • School supplies for local villages — optional (pens, pencils, notebooks, or sunglasses)

It’s hot and humid, so pack light, breathable clothes you can move in, and skip the jeans.

    • Yes. Both the Jakare and the Teman are fully equipped dive boats, with two divemasters on board, compressors, dive tenders, and gear to rent. To dive, you need a scuba certification and travel insurance that covers diving. Dive costs depend on your boat:

        • Jakare — $200 USD dive surcharge per trip, plus $30 USD per day for equipment rental
        • Teman — First three dives included, then 50 EUR per dive, plus 40 EUR per day for equipment rental

Leave us a note at checkout if you’re interested, and you’ll be able to pay for diving in person.

    • Underwater, expect thousands of fish species, from barracuda, clownfish, boxfish, and pufferfish to bumphead parrotfish. You’ll also see hundreds of species of hard and soft coral, green and hawksbill turtles, and blacktip and whitetip reef sharks. With some luck, you may spot manta rays, oceanic rays, dolphins, and whales.

On land, keep an eye out for monitor lizards, cuscus, bandicoots, and several bat species.

Birdlife is just as rich, with eclectus parrots, lorikeets, cockatoos, kingfishers, kookaburras, hornbills, frigatebirds, fish eagles, and plenty more.

Birds of paradise: Your guides will try to fit in a bird of paradise tour at some point during the trip, since both the red and Wilson’s bird of paradise live in Raja Ampat. It’s weather dependent, and like any wildlife tour, sightings aren’t guaranteed.

And if you’re wondering whether there’s anything dangerous in the water — not much, as long as you look and don’t touch.

There are some sea snakes, scorpionfish, lionfish, and small rays that can sting, but they generally won’t bother you if you leave them alone. The reef sharks here don’t attack humans.

Stingers are rare, but you may run into a few on some outings. They’re more annoying than anything, so a long-sleeved rash guard and leggings are enough. A full stinger suit isn’t necessary.

Crocodiles do live in Raja Ampat, but local hunting has left very few in the area. The handful spotted each season are usually deep in remote mangroves or far up rivers, away from villages. Your guides haven’t seen a single one since they started running trips here in 2010.

    • Group sizes and prices:

        • For this kayaking and multisport tour in Raja Ampat, there will be 1 kayaking guide, 2 divemasters, and 1 snorkel guide onboard.
        • It takes a minimum of 8 people for the tour to operate. The maximum number of people is set at 10 participants.
        • Solo travelers are welcome, but there’s no roommate matching on this trip. Due to very limited space, to have a cabin to yourself, you’ll need to pay double the trip price. Traveling with a friend? The superior cabins have separate beds, so you don’t have to share one.

Kayaking in Raja Ampat can be arranged for larger groups. Contact us to make arrangements.

      Min. age requirements:

        • If you are older than 18, you’re good to go.
        • Minors younger than 18 may be permitted to join the hike on a case-by-case basis, but must be in the presence of a parent or legal guardian.

If your group has hikers under the age of 18, contact us prior to booking to make arrangements.

    • Yes, but it comes at double the price. There’s no roommate matching on this trip, so solo travelers need to book a full cabin to themselves, which means paying for two spots.

If you’re traveling with a friend and don’t want to share a bed, the superior midship cabins have a double bed (140 cm) and a separate single bed (80 cm). The twin-share cabins at the bow also have two single beds (120 cm and 85 cm).

Cabins are assigned based on availability, so your preferred one isn’t guaranteed. If you have your heart set on a specific cabin, get in touch before booking and we’ll check what’s still open.

    • Malaria is present in Raja Ampat, but transmission rates are currently low, and there are surprisingly few mosquitoes. You’ll rarely see them on the boat, though they do come out on beaches at dusk, like during the occasional beach BBQ. Antimalarial medication is currently recommended, so talk to your doctor before the trip. On shore, wear long sleeves and pants and use mosquito repellent.

    • You’ll board your yacht in Sorong, the largest city and the capital of the Indonesian province of Southwest Papua. To get there, most people fly into Domine Eduard Osok Airport (SOQ) in Sorong.

If arriving into Sorong on Day 1 of the trip, make sure your flight is scheduled to land before 8 am. You will be met at the airport and transferred to the boat.

Still, a better idea might be arriving to Sorong at least a day prior to the trip. Your guides will pick you up in the morning of Day 1 and transfer you to the boat. On the last day, morning flights out of Sorong are no problem, since you can be at the airport as early as 6 am.

    • Most travelers, including US, UK, Canadian, Australian, and EU passport holders, can get a visa on arrival or an e-visa for short tourist stays in Indonesia, though requirements and fees vary by nationality and can change. Confirm your specific requirement with the Indonesian consulate or an official government visa portal before you travel, since Raja Ampat’s remoteness means sorting out a visa problem after you’ve already flown to Sorong is a much bigger headache than confirming it in advance.

    • The chances are low. Most of Raja Ampat is well protected, and the one more open crossing happens at night, when everyone’s lying down. Usually that crossing isn’t an issue at all, but some swell is always possible. If you’re prone to seasickness, bring tablets just in case, though you most likely won’t need them.

    • We highly recommend that you cover all your bases with insurance. To make your booking and traveling experience as carefree as possible, you’ll be offered to simply insure your trip with Redpoint at checkout.

Redpoint—the official 57hours insurance partner—tailors protection packages for adventure travel, offering a comprehensive travel program, even in remote locations! Trip cancellation, natural disasters, pandemic coverage, medical evacuation, primary medical expenses—regardless of the travel interruption that may happen, Redpoint will have you covered.
