  • Whether you’ll fall in love with the Alpine landscape in northwestern Slovenia is a no-brainer. Rushing rivers, lush pastures, crystal clear lakes, and mountain huts with unbeatable views—what’s not to love? Spend three days in the Julian Alps hiking the Seven Lakes Valley and expect a change of scenery every day: at one moment you’re walking through verdant valleys, and the next you’re on arid terrain of Mt. Kanjevac at an altitude of 2,569 m (8,440 ft). The hut experience not only provides you with incredible surrounding views and mingling with the locals, but you’ll also be relishing authentic Slovenian cuisine daily!

    • The starting point of your adventure is Bohinj and the first stop is the Voje Valley. Once you’ve taken in the views of its verdant meadows encircled by mountains, continue onto the steep gorge of the pristine river Mostnica. Soon you’ll reach the Voje waterfall, after which you’ll climb upwards across several smaller high mountain pastures, which lead you to the Vodnik Lodge. The hut is perched up in the heart of Julian Alps, and its views of the surrounding peaks are like no other.
      Hiking: 11 km / 7 miles
      Elevation gain: 1,300 m / 4,265 ft
      Elevation loss: 100 m / 330 ft

      Lake Bohinj in Slovenia.
    • You’ll begin by hiking along the Velska Valley under the southern slopes of Triglav, up to the Dolič hut. This will be your first taste of the high mountain range. At Dolič, you’ll reach an altitude with no vegetation, and if you’re feeling energetic enough, you can extend your route to the peak of Mount Kanjevac. Descend to the Zasavje Lodge on the other side of the mountains and have a lunch break with a one-of-a-kind view of the Soča Valley. Last stop of the day is the famous Seven Lakes Valley, which will take you to the Triglav Lake Lodge. Spend the night there.
      Hiking: 11 km / 7 miles
      Elevation gain: 600 m / 1,970 ft
      Elevation loss: 740 m / 2,430 ft

The valley and artificial lake of river Soca at Most na Soci, Primorska, Slovenia.
    • If you’re up to the challenge, start the day by tackling the steep hillside to Mala Tičarica. Another option is passing it across the slightly up and down terrain to reach the Ovčarija and the Dedno Polje pastures. Here you’ll have an opportunity to visit an artisan cheese-maker, who still produces cheese the traditional way. Continue on to the mountain hut on Planina pri jezeru, where you’ll grab a bite to eat. A walk through the woods takes you to Bohinj, the starting point. If you’re not yet ready to say your goodbyes, there’s an option of spending a relaxing afternoon in Bohinj, maybe even swimming in the lake! Your guide will take you back to your hotel.
      Hiking: 13 km / 8 miles
      Elevation gain: 100 m / 330 ft
      Elevation loss: 1,200 m / 3,940 ft

Aerial view of the mountains and lake Bohinj.
    • What you get on this adventure:

        • An experienced, local hiking guide with extensive knowledge of the area
        • 3 days of hut-to-hut hiking in the Seven Lakes Valley
        • Transportation from Bled to Bohinj, your starting point
        • Drop-off at your hotel (if it’s in the Bohinj area)

      What’s not included:

        • Transportation to and from Slovenia
        • Transfer from Ljubljana (possible to organize at an additional fee)
        • Accommodation in huts (60-70€ per night, includes half-board) — your guide can take care of the reservations and you pay the fee at the hut
        • Lunches (can be purchased at the hut or along the trail)
        • Guide gratuities — optional
    • This three-day hut-to-hut hike in the Seven Lakes Valley is suited for people with reasonable fitness levels and with basic hiking experience—it’s suitable for anyone who’s able to hike for half of the day. You’ll be walking around 12 km (7.5 miles) a day and the most you’ll vertically gain is 1,300 m (4,265 ft), all while carrying a backpack for three days in a row. The trails are sometimes narrow and uneven with some loose and rocky sections, but they’re not overly technical.

    • For clothing, we recommend bringing:

        • Lightweight hiking boots or shoes
        • Spare clothes for layering
        • Insulation jacket and rain jacket
        • Spare socks, underwear, and shirts
        • Gloves
        • Sunhat and headwear

Here’s a list of other things you’ll need:

        • Day pack large enough to carry all the items listed (around a 25-40L bag)
        • Hiking poles — optional
        • Water bottle or hydration bladder (2L capacity)
        • Toiletries (sunscreen, hand sanitizer, bug spray, toilet paper, etc.)
        • Headlamp or flashlight
        • Sunglasses
        • Camera — optional (but recommended)
        • Snacks
        • Headlamp
        • ID card
        • Sleeping liner (disposable, can be bought in the hut)
        • Cash for accommodation and food

Dress comfortably and for the weather in clothes you can move in. We suggest bringing clothing appropriate for the season. Layers are best and don’t wear jeans.

    • You’ll be staying at two lodges during your hut-to-hut hiking tour in the Seven Lakes Valley, with the first one being the Vodnik Lodge. Perched at an elevation of 1,817 m (5,965 ft), the Vodnik Lodge is encircled by Alpine peaks. Dating back to 1895 and named after a Slovenian Enlightenment poet Valentin Vodnik, the lodge can accommodate up to 70 people and it has 50 seats in dining rooms and on the lodge’s terrace. It has its own drinking water source and a generator for electricity, but the real showstopper is its location and its unparalleled view.

For your second night, you’re staying at the Triglav Lake Lodge, sitting at an elevation of 1,453 m (4,770 ft). The lodge is nested right by the lake and it’s surrounded by lush spruce forests. There are 80 seats in catering rooms and 90 beds, and it also has electricity.

These mountain huts don’t have single rooms, but there are private rooms for 2 or 4 people. Reach out to us if you would like to be placed in a more private room. We can’t promise anything, as such mountain huts are very popular in the summer, but we’ll try to accommodate you as you wish!
