Starting in the Slovenian capital, you will reach the nearby Alpine regions of the country. Over seven days, explore the best these areas have to offer based in two mountain towns located at the opposite ends of the Julian Alps—Bled and Bovec. Every day, you will uncover hidden gems of the Triglav National Park and get a chance to enjoy Slovenian culture and cuisine in charming towns and Alpine villages.
-
After arriving in Bled and exploring the town, you will head to Lake Bohinj and take a cable car ride to the Vogel Plateau, which offers a panoramic view of the central Julian Alps and the lake below. This is a popular ski resort during winter, but in summer, it’s a hiking paradise with plenty of trails—some of which you will explore as an introduction to your walking holidays.
-
Start your day with an optional sunrise hike to the Ojstrica viewpoint above Lake Bled. After that, you will head to Lake Bohinj again and go on one of the most beautiful easy hikes in the area, following a trail through the Voje Valley. Leading you first past pools and cascades of the Mostnica Gorge, the trail will continue along pastures dotted with traditional dwellings all the way to the Mostnica Waterfall. Here, you’ll stop in a mountain hut to enjoy an authentic Slovenian lunch from the mountains. After an active morning, relax in the afternoon by the shores of beautiful Lake Bohinj.
Meals: Breakfast -
Day 3 begins with a visit to the Vintgar Gorge. You’ll wander amidst the vertical walls carved by the persistent flow of the Radovna river. Continue onto the dramatic landscapes of the Triglav Valleys. Stopping for a few photos in the Valley of Krma, continue to Peričnik waterfall in the Vrata valley. Hike along the Triglavska Bistrica river afterwards and reach the top of the valley, where you will face a humbling sight in the form of a 3,200-ft-high (1,000 m) Triglav north face. It’s the highest peak in Slovenia featured in the country’s coat of arms. After lunch in the Aljaž hut, return back to Bled and spend the rest of the day according to your interests.
Meals: Breakfast -
Your group will change its base location on the fourth day. Driving over the scenic Vršič Pass road and descending down to the other side of the Julian Alps, you will finally reach the famed Soča Valley and the alpine town of Bovec. The valley’s most recognizable feature is the turquoise Soča River. The areas near the town are a paradise for anyone who wants to spend some time in the great outdoors.
Meals: Breakfast -
Day 5 is reserved for exploring the beautiful Soča Valley. You will first visit the Great and the Small Soča Gorges, famous for their deep turquoise pools of water. From there, head into the adjacent Valley of Lepena and take a walk along the boldly-colored green streams of the Šunik Water Grove, an excellent place to completely unwind and relax. After lunch, you will drive to Bovec and do a short hike to the largest waterfall in Slovenia—the Boka waterfall. It measures 144 meters in height and 18 meters in width. Return to your accommodation and spend the afternoon as you wish.
Meals: Breakfast -
The day begins with a southward drive to the town of Kobarid situated at the foot of the Krn mountain range. Discover its rich history, especially its place within the horrible events that happened during the First World War. After that, take a hike to the picture-perfect village of Drežnica and the secluded Kozjak waterfall. Pay a visit to the WW1 museum in Kobarid after lunch to learn about one of the darkest periods of human history. Take a chance to celebrate your achievements with your guide and fellow hikers in the evening as tomorrow is the last day of the tour.
Meals: Breakfast -
Leaving Bovec, you will start day 7 with a border cross to Italy. Here, you will be greeted by the peaceful Lake Predil. You will later re-enter Slovenia at the beginning of the Tamar Valley. Stopping at the Planica Nordic Centre (which houses the second biggest ski-flying hill in the world), do a short hike through this awe-inspiring glacial valley. At the end of the hike, you’ll be able to see the towering crystal-shaped Mt Jalovec, the second biggest peak in Slovenia. The last stop of the day and the adventure will be Kranjska Gora, a popular alpine resort, where your lunch awaits you at Lake Jasna. Your holiday will be concluded with a ride back to Ljubljana.
