Arrive at Pisa for transfer to Agriturismo Col di Lavacchio. Have a complimentary aperitif on the terrace and discuss the week ahead of you with your guide. Enjoy a filling dinner in a cozy dining room amidst antiques and old paintings. If the evening is warm, dine on a vine-covered terrace and take in the expansive views of the Serchio Valley and the mountains behind it.
Enjoy a woodland hike to the charming Brucciano village. Follow a new trail to the Grottorotondo ridge, with epic views and some fascinating WWII reproductions. Cross an alpine meadow and ascend up a gorge to Colle Panestra and Mt. Rovaio, where you can observe memorials of the “Valanga” partisan brigade. Pass an old partisan shelter and circumnavigate the mountain before descending to a small hamlet. All that’s left is a short transfer back to Lavacchio. Duration: 6h Ascent: 950 m (3,116 ft)
After a transfer, reach the village of San Cassiano and a 900-year-old church. Follow the Shepherd’s Way to the top of Monte Prato Fioritohere, admiring the ridgeline of the Apennines and views of Tuscany’s wildest valleys. Have your lunch at the peak, before proceeding down a path across meadows and past monumental chestnut trees. Continue downwards to the rocky remnants of an 18th-century escarpment before wrapping the hike up. Duration: 5h Ascent: 750 m (2,460 ft)
Head to the cobbled streets of Fornovolasco before joining the old pilgrims’ trail through the forests and towards the coast. Continue along the limestone ridge until you reach Foce di Vagli, a smooth slope on the south side of Pania della Croce. As you descend, walk past meadows and a forest back to Fornovolasco. A swim in the fast-flowing Turrite River is a good way to cool off and get ready for the next day. See the day off with dinner and a glass or two of local wine. Walk a beautiful path from the Isola Santa Lake until you reach an incredible chestnut forest, with a quaint abandoned village in the middle. The path takes you past Punato, an amazing pasture with a little stone church. Relax on the grass, touch the mysterious rocky carvings, and learn about the Liguri Apuani, a Celtic people that used to live here. Duration: 4h Ascent: 550 m (1,805 ft)
Get ready for an amazing hike across the beautiful forests and breathtaking meadows of the Apennines. Follow the grassy ridgeline to reach the summit of Monte Prado, the highest peak in Tuscany with some incredible views. The walk starts from Casone di Profecchia, winding along amazing pastures and beech forests. Visit the beautiful border between Tuscany and Emilia Romagna before descending down the east face of the mountain. Duration: 7h Ascent: 900 m (2,952 ft)
Cap this adventure off with a visit to the Pania della Croce, the Queen of the Apuan Alps. After a short journey to Piglionico, follow one of two scenic routes to the imposing peak above you, and pause for a cup of coffee at the Foce di Mosceta to regain some strength. Afterward, watch the wild sheep as you descend through the scree-filled Canale d’Inferno. Following a short break at Rifugio Rossi, descend the karst formations and end the day with a short transfer to Lavacchio. Duration: 7h Ascent: 940 m (3,083 ft)
All good things must come to an end, and so does this adventure. After a final breakfast, your guides will transfer you back to Pisa for your trip home.

In order to participate in these guided hiking tours, you need to be in very good physical shape. You’ll be hiking anywhere between 4 and 7 hours every day, covering up to 16 km (10 miles) with ascents ranging from 550m (1,800 ft) to 950m (3,116 ft). Keep in mind, you’ll be packing a daypack filled with water and other things you’ll need throughout the day.

Dress comfortably and for the weather in clothes you can move in. We suggest bringing clothing appropriate for the season. Layers are best and don’t wear jeans.

Secure one of the dates for this year with a 30% deposit. The remaining amount is paid 3 months (90 days) prior to departure. Once the trip is confirmed by the guide, the cancellation policy stated below applies.

In case of cancellation by the guide due to the minimum number of participants not being reached, or as a result of conditions questioning the safety of the participants, or for a case of absolute necessity at least 21 days before the departure, you will be proposed, in the majority of the cases at least, a formula for replacement. If this formula is not convenient for you, you will be entirely refunded.
Your guides will pick you up in the Garfagnana valley, then transfer you to the Lavacchio Farm in Tuscany, which will be your homebase for the remainder of the tour.
