    • This Faroe Islands tour is for adventurers with experience hiking in mountain terrain. For those people with fear of heights, registration on this adventure is not recommended. There are very steep and aerial areas on most of the islands. You should be able to hike over 900m (2950 ft) of elevation gain and hike more than
      20km for several days.

The volcanic terrain can be challenging and the weather unforgiving. Expect steep trails that will test your lungs. That said, if you are looking for adventure and up to the task of multiple days of full-day trekking, you’ll be rewarded immensely.

    • Suitcases are not allowed on this tour. Please bring a duffel back and a backpack for daily hikes.

Ensure that all items fit securely within your duffel bag without anything protruding, keeping everything dry during the hike. The quantities listed for specific items are indicative and based on guides’ recommendations.

Here’s a general list of personal gear you need to bring:

        • Backpack for daily adventures
        • Sleeping bag with comfort temperature of 5°C to 10°C / 40°C to 50°C — you will sleep inside a sailboat

        • Swimsuit and towel

        • Gloves / mittens
        • Hiking buff

Prior to the start of the route, the guide will do a comprehensive gear check with each traveler to ensure that everything necessary is brought.

While your guide carries a first-aid kit, each traveler should carry their own necessities based on personal requirements, including any specific pathologies or risks.

Please note that drones are strictly prohibited.

    • Hiking with a local guide means getting a chance to explore all the hidden corners of the remote Faroe Islands. Not only will you see the best of what the Faroe Islands have to offer, but you’ll learn about the mythology that shaped the local culture. You’ll also have an expert who knows the area well and knows just what to do if the weather takes a turn for the worse.

    • While you are on the island of Vágar and the last day in Tórshavn, the groups stay in twin rooms without distinction of gender and with shared bathrooms. During the sailing days you will stay in the Norðlýsið expedition sailboat. Travelers will sleep in the common cabin under the sailboat deck.

    • The diet of the Faroe Islands trip is conceived as a full board (breakfast, lunch and dinner) the days on the sailboat. The only meals not included are: dinner during the stay on the island of Vágar (days 1, 2 and 3) and dinner on day 7 in Tórshavn. Breakfast on day 8 at the accommodation is included. The lunch at noon will be picnic style to take full advantage of the daily trekking route, and will have to be loaded by travelers in their backpacks during the route.

Every day, the guides will prepare dinner and the travelers will participate in the cleaning. The guides will be in charge of coordinating the different group tasks among all the travelers. On the last day of the route there will be a stop on the way with the sailboat to fish, and then the fish will be prepared when returning on board.

In case of special dietary needs, please contact us and we can make arrangements.

    • You will be joining a group that usually consists of 7-12 people. Pricing is per person. The group gets confirmed at the moment that at least the minimum people (7 people) pays the 30% deposit of the final price. At that time, the group will be informed that the trip has been confirmed, and therefore that they can start booking their flights to Iceland.

If you are an individual traveler, you can join the group. The guide will be adding travelers until the minimum group size to confirm the trip can be guaranteed. There are no supplements to individual travelers, as they will share a room.

Everybody over the age of 18 is welcome on this hiking adventure.

    • The Faroe Islands are only a short flight from a variety of European destinations, such as Copenhagen (DK), Paris (FR), Reykjavik (IS), Edinburgh (UK), and Bergen (NO). Two airlines fly to the Faroe Islands. These are Atlantic Airways and Scandinavian Airlines.

Flights from Reykjavik, Edinburgh and Bergen to the Faroe Islands are only one hour long, and flights from Copenhagen last only two hours. Direct flights from Paris to the Faroe Islands last just under three hours.

Your guide will meet you at the Vágar Airport and take you to your accommodation in Vágar.

It is important for the correct development of the trip that the return flights don’t depart until 12.00am in the morning of the last day. Since the Faroe Islands capital is more than 50 km from the airport, this allows a correct rest for the guides and an enjoyment of breakfast for the whole group.

    • We highly recommended that you cover all your bases with both emergency medical and travel insurance. With medical insurance, if you have an accident or medical emergency on or off the mountain, you’ll avoid paying out of pocket for costly expenses. This covers everything from hospital treatments to emergency air transportation and more.

As we’ve recently seen, travel plans can be abruptly halted, so it’s a good idea to purchase travel insurance that covers cancelled flights, natural disasters and other scenarios that may interrupt your travel plans. For peace of mind, we suggest you consider both options of insurance.

If you need assistance selecting the right insurance for your group, let us know and we will be happy to help!

    • With us, it’s all play and no work for you! 57hours is an open platform that connects you with trained and certified outdoor adventure professionals all over the world. Using our tech-savvy, we make it super easy to find and book adventures worth tackling, with guides worth booking, all gathered from the first-hand experiences of the locals who adventure in these amazing locations.

    • Faroe Islands are home to infamously unpredictable weather, so you need to be prepared with the right gear. The same white cloud shielding you from sunbeams can easily turn into a stormcloud within minutes. Rest assured, your guide will know the correct course of action if the weather throws a curveball. Plus, you’ll get the chance to warm up once you’re aboard the sailboat.

    • 57hours is committed to providing safe outdoor adventure experiences. We require all guides using our platform to have a COVID-19 safety plan and to make the details of that plan accessible to travelers. In most cases, group sizes will be reduced, guides will avoid overcrowded locations, and other safety measures will be met depending on the location and activity.

We also expect clients to respect local regulations and take measures to protect themselves, guides and the communities they’re travelling to. For more information on COVID-19 measures in the Faroe Islands, please refer to the Visit Faroe Islands website.

Please contact us if you have any questions or require further information. We are happy to provide you with the most up-to-date information!
