Cancellation policy

The percentages in the table above are of the full trip price, not of what you’ve paid at the time of booking.

Cancellations made within 48 hours of booking receive a full refund on all plans, including booking fees and insurance. After the 48-hour window, your refund depends on your selected protection plan and when you cancel. Core and Premium plans extend your cancellation rights beyond the Standard policy:

  • With Core, a covered reason gets you 75% of your trip cost back — even the day before you go.
  • With Premium, a covered reason gets you 100% of your trip cost back — and any other reason gets you 75%, right up to the day you leave.
What counts as a covered reason
  • Sudden illness or injury — yours, a travel companion’s, or an immediate family member’s, confirmed by a doctor
  • Death of a traveler or an immediate family member
  • A natural disaster affecting your destination or your departure point
  • A government travel advisory against travel to your destination

Changing your mind isn’t a covered reason. Premium is the only plan that covers that. Documentation is required for all insurance claims.

Everything the travel insurance covers

Both plans include travel insurance through Redpoint Travel Protection. Core insures 75% of your trip cost; Premium insures 100%.

Maximum per person:

  • Trip cancellation — up to 100% of your trip cost
  • Cancel for any reason — up to 75% of your trip cost (Premium only)
  • Trip interruption — 150% of the trip cost limit
  • Trip delay — $200 a day, $1,000 max
  • Itinerary change — $250
  • Single occupancy supplement — up to 100% of trip cost
  • Missed connection — $1,000
  • Travel inconvenience — $250 each, $750 max
  • Pet return — $1,000 per pet
  • Baggage and personal effects — $2,500, max $300 an item
  • Baggage delay — $600, after 12 hours
  • Baggage delivery — $100 per trip
  • Emergency medical expenses — $100,000
  • Medical evacuation and repatriation — up to $1,000,000

These are maximums. What a claim actually pays depends on what you can document and on the policy’s exclusions — pre-existing conditions and undeclared activities among them. We’ll send the full policy wording with your confirmation.

  • Discover one of the world’s most remote skiing destinations on this 8-day ski touring adventure in the Altay Mountains of East Kazakhstan. We’ll venture far away from civilization, but we’re bringing all the essentials: an expert guide, accommodation in comfy yurts with daily banya sessions, all meals and snacks and in-country transfers are taken care of. Gear up and disappear into the dream of every powder hound.

    • Arrive at Ust-Kamenogorsk Airport (UKK), where we’ll all meet at 2 pm for the group transfer. From there, it’s a 3–3.5-hour journey to the lodge: a bus ride into the mountains, then a 15-minute snowmobile ride to finish. Once we arrive, we settle into the yurts, sit down for a welcome dinner, and warm up in the banya.

      Meals: Dinner
      Accommodation: Yurt, Altay Mountain Lodge

Snow-covered yurts at Altay Mountain Lodge
    • After breakfast, we head out for a full day of touring. Snowmobiles help us reach the more distant zones when needed. Most of the skiing is around treeline: open lanes through the trees, snow pillows, and lines through the rocks. The runs are 400–900 m (1,312–2,953 ft) long on slopes of 25–40°. We’re back at camp in the afternoon for après soup and snacks, followed by the banya and dinner.

      Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Skiing: About 1,000 m (3,281 ft) of climbing and 1,200–1,300 m (3,937–4,265 ft) of descent per day
      Accommodation: Yurt, Altay Mountain Lodge

A skier climbs a slope of untouched snow in the Altay Mountains
    • After an early breakfast, we leave the lodge at 8 am and arrive at Ust-Kamenogorsk Airport around noon, in time for afternoon flights.

      Meals: Breakfast

    • Included:

        • An experienced, local ski touring guide with extensive knowledge of the area
        • 8-day ski touring trip in Kazakhstan’s Altay Mountains (6 days of skiing)
        • Accommodation for 7 nights in yurts (twin share)
        • All meals: breakfast, mountain lunch, après soup and snacks, and dinner
        • Daily banya
        • Group transfers from and to Ust-Kamenogorsk Airport by bus and snowmobile
        • Snowmobile support on approaches, when needed

Add-ons (leave a note at checkout if interested):

        • Touring ski and avalanche kit rental (limited availability)
        • Private airport transfer (for arrivals after 3 pm or departures before 1 pm)

      Not included:

        • International and domestic flights
        • Touring boots
        • Alcoholic drinks
        • Personal expenses
        • Anything not mentioned in the “Included” section above
        • Insurance — mandatory, available to add at checkout
        • Guide gratuities — optional
    • In order to join this Altay ski touring trip, great fitness is required, as well as at least one week of previous ski touring experience. You should be an intermediate skier or snowboarder (or better), comfortable in deep snow.

Expect to skin up about 1,000 m (3,281 ft) a day, six days in a row. Thanks to snowmobile support, you’ll ski down more than you climb, averaging 1,200–1,300 m (3,937–4,265 ft) of descent a day. Your guides adjust each day to the group, so be honest about your level when booking.

    • Yes, your guides have a limited number of powder touring skis (with skins and poles) and avalanche safety kits (transceiver, shovel, and probe) for rent. Since supplies are limited, leave us a note at checkout if you’d like to rent, and your guides will confirm. Touring boots aren’t available to rent, so you’ll need to bring your own.

There’s no ski service or hot waxing at the lodge, so service your gear before the trip and pack pocket wax and a repair kit.
