  • Far away from the crowds, the Priorat wine region invites you on an 8-day hiking tour to marvel at its countryside scenery in the company of like-minded venturesome women. With its steep vineyards, energetic rivers, verdant olive groves, and thousand-year-old ruins, you’ll find no end of riches here. Not only will you have a group of fantastic women around you, but you’ll also be supporting local women by visiting their wineries and olive oil mills. All nights will be spent in the charming Falset, where you’ll stay at a stylish boutique hotel in the medieval part of town. The difference between the 7-day version is that you get an extra day here spent in the bustling, seaside Tarragona.

    • Get settled into your stylish boutique hotel—Priorat ApartHotel or Lotus Hotel if full—in Falset, your base for the week. Check in is from 4 pm. Meet your guide at 6 pm for a welcome briefing and an introduction to the wines of Priorat by a local expert with the chance to taste some. Use the rest of the day to wander around town and have dinner with your group at a local restaurant.

Accommodation: Priorat ApartHotel or Lotus Hotel

    • Walk from Falset through the town and up past the hermitages of St. Christobel and St. Gregory, moving onto a little ridge where you’ll get lovely views of Falset and El Molar—a landmark mountain with distinctive features in the area. Continue your day with a walk down through olive groves and vineyards where taxis will pick you up and take you to Pradell, a typical Catalan village. Have dinner here and return to Falset. Once there, walk to a bodega for a wine tasting.

    • Start the day by walking to the hilltop village of Bellmunt and then onto Prior Terrae, a highly-rated vineyard set in the countryside run by a woman who’s developing new techniques for her wine. You’ll get a tour as well as a chance to taste these wines along with a lovely homemade lunch. The walking today is mostly on well-signed tracks with some incline. Return to Falset by taxi. Spend your evening in town and enjoy some pica pica (tapas) with your group.

    • A train from Falset takes you to Tarragona, a large seaside town south of Barcelona. Start with a guided tour of the town, its cathedral, Roman remains, and the amphitheater. If you’re lucky, you’ll also be able to climb the bell tower! After lunch near the cathedral, feel free to explore the city on your own—do some more sightseeing, go shopping, or visit the sandy beach. Return to the train early in the evening, but if you want to spend the evening in Tarragona, you can make your own way back to Falset.

    • Today you’ll step out of the Priorat region with a visit to the charming medieval town of Miravet, sitting on the river Ebro. Follow the river, walk through orange and nectarine groves, past little casas, and through a bamboo forest, before winding up to the castle at Miravet. Built by the Knights Templar on top of an even older Moorish building, you’ll get incredible views from up there. Drop down to the village for a break and packed lunch. Return to Falset, visit the Cooperative for a tour and tasting, including the town’s renowned vermouth. The building was built by Cesar Martinell, a disciple of Gaudi! Enjoy your evening and dine out together.

    • Today’s walk starts in Poboleda, a charming village near Falset. Walk steadily uphill between vineyards and almond trees until you reach Morera de Montsant, where you’ll rest with a cold beer or coffee. After you’ve recharged, head down to the 12th-century monastery in Scala Dei—explore the partly-renovated ruins, which offer a fascinating glimpse into the monks’ lives. After a pause for lunch, follow the path to the village of Escaladei, where you’ll have wine tasting and tour one of Priorat’s premium wine producers. Return to Falset by taxi for a free evening.

Take a packed lunch with you and have a break while enjoying views over the village, before returning to the village square to sample some of the Priorat wines. Taxis will take you back to Falset. For your final evening together, you’ll enjoy your last meal and go out for drinks at one of the guide’s favorite restaurants.
