  • This self-guided bike tour follows the Moselle Cycle Path from Trier to Koblenz across 4 riding days, covering the full 190 km (118 mi) with 7 nights in handpicked hotels along the route. A full rest day in Cochem—with a wine tasting and a Moselle river cruise included—and an optional Rhine Valley ride on Day 7 set this itinerary apart. Route materials, GPX files, and daily luggage transfers are all included—just show up and ride. Departures run every Saturday, Sunday, or Tuesday from April through October, so you pick the date that works for you.

    • Arrive at your own pace in Trier—Germany’s oldest city, and a place that takes its history seriously. Founded by the Romans and packed with UNESCO-listed monuments, it’s worth giving yourself time to explore before the riding begins tomorrow. The iconic Porta Nigra, the Imperial Baths, and the Roman amphitheater are all within easy walking distance of the center. End the evening in one of Trier’s traditional wine taverns with a glass of local Riesling.

    • You set off along the Moselle riverbank, passing through Trittenheim—where one of the oldest bridges in the area offers views of the well-preserved ferry towers across the water. The route climbs briefly into the vineyards above the village before revealing a sweeping panorama of the Moselle Valley. You continue through Neumagen-Dhron, the oldest wine village in Germany, before reaching Piesport, where a remarkably preserved Roman wine cellar from the 4th century is worth a quick stop.

    • A detour to Bernkastel-Kues is the highlight today—a perfectly preserved medieval wine village with a cobblestone market square ringed by half-timbered houses. It genuinely looks like a film set. Moving on, you pass through Zeltingen, known for its grand Baroque buildings and its own excellent wines, before reaching Traben-Trarbach for the night.

You’ll also get views of the Calmont—Europe’s steepest vineyard—before arriving in Cochem, one of the most photogenic towns on the entire route. The imposing Reichsburg Castle looms above the town, and the old town below it is every bit as charming.

    • A well-earned day off the bike. In the morning, you visit a local winery for a guided wine tasting—this is Moselle Riesling country at its most concentrated, and the producers here take their craft seriously. In the afternoon, a boat cruise on the Moselle lets you see the valley from the water for a change. The rest of the day is yours to wander Cochem’s old town, climb up to Reichsburg Castle, or simply sit on a terrace and watch the river go by.

    • That depends on what kind of trip you’re after:

6-day is for you if you want to cover the full route efficiently without stretching the trip longer than needed. The riding days are a bit longer, but nothing demanding.

7-day is the sweet spot for most people—same total distance spread across one extra day, so the daily rides are shorter and there’s more time to linger in each town.

8-day is for you if you’re in no rush, love wine, and want a proper rest day built in. The Cochem wine tasting and river cruise are included, and the optional Rhine Valley ride on Day 7 gives you something to do if you’re still feeling energetic.

    • This Moselle river self-guided bike tour is beginner-friendly and accessible to most cyclists—the Moselle Cycle Path is nearly flat, almost entirely car-free, and very well-signed. The total distance across all three itineraries is 190 km (118 mi). Here’s what each option looks like in terms of riding:

        • 6-day itinerary: 4 riding days, up to 55 km (34 mi) per day
        • 7-day itinerary: 5 riding days, up to 47 km (29 mi) per day
        • 8-day itinerary: 4 riding days plus 1 rest day and 1 optional ride, up to 55 km (34 mi) per day on riding days

All three options are on mostly flat, paved riverside paths. No significant elevation gain to speak of—the focus is on enjoying the scenery, not conquering climbs. If you’d rather not pedal the whole way, e-bikes are available to rent at an additional cost.
