  • Round up your thrill-seeking friends and family and head to Italy’s Julian Alps for an adrenaline-inducing experience! Canyoneering in the high mountains is a fantastic mix of hiking, scrambling, rappelling down waterfalls, jumping into pools and into mountain rivers. Ideal for those looking for an adrenaline surge, canyoneering leaves no one indifferent. Preface the water activities with an uphill hike to the canyon’s start and after soaking up the sun, expect to actually get soaked very quickly. With a friendly and an experienced guide leading you all the way through, you’ll share an adventure of a lifetime with your loved ones.

    • What you get on this adventure:

        • An experienced, local, UIAGM/IFMGA Mountain Guide with extensive knowledge of the area
        • 5 hours of canyoneering
        • Technical gear (5 mm neoprene wetsuit, neoprene socks, helmet, and harness)

      What’s not included:

        • Transportation to Italy and the canyoneering spot
        • Accommodations
        • Meals
        • Guide gratuities — optional
    • Canyoneering tour in the Julian Alps welcomes both beginners and seasoned canyoneers. There are great options for those with experience, but you’ll find plenty of beginner-friendly canyons in Italy. One thing is a must, though, and that’s good physical condition. Leading a healthy lifestyle, climbing, whitewater paddling—all of these are a major plus for this adventure.

Also keep in mind that you’ll have to walk uphill to get to the canyon entrance for about 45 minutes.

Other than that, this canyoneering tour involves some more strenuous sections involving mountain trails, river courses, flowing water, and slippery rocks. The tour is not suitable for people who can’t swim, those with fear of heights, and pregnant women.

    • Canyoneering is a mix of many activities, with the main ones being hiking, rock climbing, swimming, sliding, and rappelling. While you don’t need to be a seasoned climber, good physical condition is still a must. The tour is not suitable for people who can’t swim, those with fear of heights, and pregnant women.

Other than that, the Julian Alps provide great opportunities for beginners and experienced canyoneers alike, so there’s something for everyone!

    • Here’s a list of the equipment you need to bring:

        • Day pack large enough to carry all the items listed (around a 25-40L bag)
        • Hiking poles — optional
        • Water bottle or hydration bladder (2L capacity)
        • Lightweight hiking boots or shoes
        • Swimsuit and towel
        • Spare clothes to change after canyoneering
        • Polyester t-shirt
        • Sunhat — optional
        • Toiletries (sunscreen, hand sanitizer, etc.)
        • Sunglasses
        • Camera — optional (but recommended)

Dress comfortably and for the weather in clothes you can move in. We suggest bringing clothing appropriate for the season. Layers are best and don’t wear jeans.

    • Group sizes and prices:

        • The maximum number of participants is 8 people and one guide.
        • You can go on a private canyoneering tour by yourself, but if you’re joining a group tour, keep in mind that it takes a minimum of 4 people for the tour to operate.
        • If you choose the private canyoneering tour, the cost per person decreases as the group grows, so it’s the perfect opportunity to gather friends and family!
        • For the group canyoneering tour, the cost does not decrease as the group grows.

Canyoneering in the Julian Alps can be arranged for larger groups. Contact us to make arrangements.

      Min. age requirements:

        • If you are older than 18, you’re good to go.
        • Minors older than 16 may be permitted to join the hike on a case-by-case basis, but must be in the presence of a parent or legal guardian.

If your group has hikers under the age of 18, contact us prior to booking to make arrangements.

    • To get to Venzone, the starting point of your canyoneering tour, most people fly into Trieste Airport (TRS) or Venice Airport Marco Polo (VCE). Depending on where you land, Venzone is an hour to two hours away by car. We recommend renting a car as you’ll also have to drive to the canyon by yourself.

You’ll meet your guide at the Hotel Ristorante Carnia, Via Canal Ferro, 28, 33010 Stazione Carnia, Venzone UD. From there, you’ll take a 40-minute drive to the canyon’s entrance with your own car.

    • 57hours is committed to providing safe outdoor adventure experiences. We require all guides using our platform to have a COVID-19 safety plan and to make the details of that plan accessible to travelers. In most cases, group sizes will be reduced, guides will avoid overcrowded locations, and other safety measures will be met depending on the location and activity.

We also expect clients to respect local regulations and take measures to protect themselves, their guides, and the communities they’re traveling to. For more information on COVID-19 measures in Italy, please refer to Italy’s COVID-19 travel requirements.

Please contact us if you have any questions or require further information. We are happy to provide you with the most up-to-date information!
