  • Found at the crossroads of Switzerland, Italy, and Austria, the region of South Tyrol in the eastern Alps provides top-notch ski areas—especially around the lofty peak of Ortler. To best experience all the area has to offer, you will freetour using ski lifts and continue ski touring in search of the best powder stashes and slopes with insane altitude drops!

    • On Day 1 you will reach your accommodation in Prato allo Stelvio by the afternoon. Settle in your accommodation and meet your guide and fellow skiers before dinner. You will go over the details of the adventure which awaits you and do a gear check.
      Meals: Dinner

A charming alpine town near Ortler in the Italian Alps.
    • Start your days with hearty breakfasts in your hotel and get ready for ski touring! The primary objective will always be to search for lines of higher quality and with the best snow. This will be done by utilizing ski lifts in three different resorts—Resia, Solda, and Senales. The positive altitude difference will be about 500 m (1,640 ft), which means that you will continue skinning to gain the additional 500 meters in altitudes after utilizing the ski lifts. Needless to say, descents will dwarf the ascents, with altitude differences between 2000 and 3000 m (6,560-9,840 ft). Later in the day, enjoy top-quality regional dishes and wine, hang out with fellow skiers, or simply go for a swim in your hotel’s heated pool.
      Meals: Breakfast and dinner
      Ascent: max. 500 m (1,640 ft)

5-Day Guided Ski Camp in the Ski Areas around Ortler.
    • As always, all good things come to an end. Take a last chance to celebrate your achievements with your guide and fellow skiers, say goodbye to Italy or continue touring on your own.
      Meals: Breakfast

Three backcountry skiers skinning a moderate slope to find slopes with greatest altitude drops around Ortler in South Tyrol, Italy.

    • To enjoy this freetouring adventure, you need to be in very good physical shape and ready for a challenge. All participants should feel comfortable on challenging blue or black-level resort runs and be able to skin to gain up to 500 m of altitude difference. You need to be able to ski for 3 full days to manage controlled descents in variable conditions. Keep in mind that you will get plenty of breaks and that your guide can always adjust the pace if there ever occurs a need for that. What is more, your guide will oversee your technique and potentially teach you how to better manage the terrain and become more confident off-piste!

    • To participate in this tour, you need to have previous backcountry/slackcountry skiing experience. Starting in a ski resort, each day your group will use ski lifts and subsequently skin to gain up to 500 additional meters in altitude. Keep in mind that the descent altitude differences will be much higher: 2,000-3,000 meters. Your guide will take care of the planning, oversee your technique, and teach you how to better manage the terrain. They also have the experience and avalanche training necessary to keep you safe. If you’ve never backcountry/slackcountry skied before, we suggest joining this beginner-friendly backcountry skiing/avalanche education tour.

    • For technical backcountry ski touring gear, you will need to bring:

        • Alpine touring skis or telemark skis with skins (can be rented)
