Skiing and mountaineering and avalanche education
This course covers Avalanche Level 1 curriculum, meeting the guidelines and syllabus of the American Avalanche Association. All participants will focus on operating in high consequence ski mountaineering terrain.
Here's a basic itinerary
In sum, count on covering Avalanche basics, characteristics and terrain. Also, key components of snowpack and weather. You'll learn best practices for information gathering, planning, communication and decision making, in addition to gaining proficiency in making relevant fields observations.
At the end of the course, participants will have a good understanding of the following and much more!
- You can count on learning to access local avalanche bulletins and learn how to understand and apply your findings in the field. Also, participants will know key components of avalanche formation and be able to describe where and why they occur.
- You'll know how to use risk management tools, be versed in safety equipment, trailhead checks and communication
- How to address the Human Factor and hone group management skills, in addition to companion rescue and other practical field based skills
- Participants should have a good level of backcountry exposure and comfort
