Spend a day climbing Seneca Rocks.

Welcome to Seneca Rocks - a renowned climbing destination that offers something for everyone. Seneca is the tallest 5th class summit on the East Coast. The mountain is known for its multi-pitch routes of all difficulties and technical terrain, giving it an alpine feel. Let us show you around the mountain for the first time and accomplish a big day of classic climbs, or teach you the skills to take your climbing to the next level.

This program is yours to customize. Do you have had specific objectives in mind or want to climbing with a specific focus? Or maybe you’d like to learn some advanced techniques? Partner with the best and create your ideal day on the rocks. Our staff and guides will discuss your goals with you and help you plan the perfect climb.

  • Get started with Critter Crack and move to Candy Corner.  Later feel The Burn due to all the Climbin’ Punishment you’ve treated yourself to
  • Develop face, slab and crack climbing techniques
  • Focus on fundamentals like belaying a lead climber, anchors, knots, lowering and rappelling
  • Learn to lead traditional multi-pitch routes
After your day of customized rock climbing you will
  • Be more confident climbing outdoors
  • Place protection and build anchors, become familiar with best practices and climbing etiquette 
  • Be able to transition from indoor to outdoor challenges with greater ease
  • Feel more comfortable navigating route selection and route management
Here’s a typical schedule for a day of climbing
  • 8:30am: Meet your guide at your predetermined location
  • 9:00am: Carpool to the chosen approach
  • 9:30am: Gear up and tackle your new skills
  • 1:00pm: Lunch at the cliff (bring lunch, snacks and plenty of water)
  • 1:30pm – 5:00pm: Climb 1-2 routes depending on speed and comfort level
  • 5:00pm: Call it a day and plan your next trip!

Guides running this program

Grant Price

Grant serves as the head guide for Blue Ridge Mountain Guides. He is from Wintergreen, VA where he grew up climbing and searching for unclimbed rock, ice and adventure. He has been climbing for over 12 years and teaching in the outdoor industry for 10 years.

Grant enjoys all types of climbing but favors ice and trad. He is as dedicated to teaching as he is to climbing. He has a strong passion for sharing his love for climbing and the mountains with others. Most find that Grant has a laid back, patient and adaptive teaching style. He strives to convey information and skills in a manner that is easy to understand and to retain.

During the winter months, Grant spends his time ice climbing and skiing in Utah, New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire.

Grant graduated from Radford University with a B.S. in Geospatial Science. He is certified by the American Mountain Guides Association as a Rock Instructor, Single Pitch Instructor, Climbing Wall Instructor and holds a Wilderness First Responder Certification. He has also completed AIARE level I, II, and III avalanche courses, and is a level I course instructor. Grant is also an AMGA SPI Assistant Provider and a Leave No Trace Trainer.

Dakota Robarge

Dakota was born and raised in Fairfield, California. Here he discovered the excitement and fulfillment that comes from human powered recreation.  Whether mountain biking, trail running or rock climbing, Dakota found that the experience involved in setting and achieving personal goals to be extremely wholesome and rewarding.

Dakota earned his bachelor degree in Manufacturing Engineering from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. There he fell in love with sharing his passion of the outdoors with others. Whether taking people out climbing for their first time or sharing techniques and knowledge that allow others to achieve their goals, Dakota is excited to share his passion for adventures with others.

Dakota has worked in outdoor recreation for the past five years. He is a certified American Mountain Guide Association Single Pitch Instructor and is currently pursuing the Rock Guide certification. Dakota is also a certified Wilderness First Responder. Whether you want to try something new, learn a new skill or just have some fun, a day with Dakota is sure to fulfill your goals.

Ben Wright

Ben is from Lynchburg, VA, and got his first exposure to climbing through the Boy Scouts of America. Over the last 4 years, Ben has climbed in the mid-Atlantic states and stoked his passion for climbing and education. His professional experience includes managing the Liberty University Climbing Center, directing BSA climbing operations in the New River Gorge, and founding the LU climbing team.

Ben’s excited and positive attitude is sure to be a highlight of climbing with him. Additionally, his teaching style and demeanor is easy going and detail oriented. As a well rounded climber, Ben enjoys bouldering, sport, and trad climbing. His time spent instructing high end climbing movement specific to bouldering is extensive. You are sure to come away with some pointers after a day with him.

He is a senior in sports management at Liberty University and instructs weekly climbing classes there. Ben is a certified by the American Mountain Guides Association as a Single Pitch Instructor and holds a Wilderness First Responder.

Kevin Shon

Kevin Shon has over 15 years as a professional outdoor educator and has been a guide for 7. He has a Master's of Social Work which has equipped him with an exceptional focus on client care. He is currently an AMGA mountain guide aspirant and is an AMGA Single Pitch Instructor and Climbing Wall Instructor.
