We arrive at the lodge and settle into our accommodation, picking up any rental equipment along the way. We meet our guides and fellow guests over a welcome drink, followed by an evening briefing that introduces the week’s programme and gives everyone a chance to check equipment and ask questions before the adventure begins. Anyone arriving early has time to get out on the slopes and warm up their ski legs.

We ease into the week with a full day exploring the legendary off-piste terrain of the Arlberg, often including classics such as the White Ring to Lech, giving everyone the chance to find their ski legs after traveling. Throughout the day, we refresh the essential off-piste skills that underpin successful ski touring, building confidence in variable snow while our guide tailors the rest of the week’s coaching to the group’s ability and goals.

We continue developing the skiing skills that make off-piste skiing safer, more efficient, and ultimately more enjoyable, with our guide refining our technique and focusing on balance, flow, and confidence in variable snow. In the afternoon, we cover the essential principles of avalanche awareness, learning to use avalanche safety equipment, practicing companion rescue techniques, and building a better understanding of terrain, snow conditions, and decision-making in the mountains. Those who’ve already completed an avalanche safety course are welcome to enjoy a free afternoon skiing independently or exploring St. Anton instead.

Time to put everything into practice. We choose a suitable introductory tour, often around Stuben or another nearby area, concentrating on skinning technique, track setting, transitions, and efficient kick turns for our first real touring experience. Over the following days, we explore longer and more rewarding tours throughout the Arlberg, gradually building confidence and independence. Where conditions allow, one night is spent in a traditional mountain hut, a memorable alpine experience that lets us enjoy a beautiful tour on both sides of the stay; the exact timing stays flexible so we can pick the best weather and snow conditions. The week builds to a final rewarding tour chosen to suit the group’s progress, by which point we’re travelling efficiently, managing transitions confidently, and ready to plan future touring adventures.

Excellent fitness is required for this tour. This week is designed for confident off-piste skiers who want to make the transition into ski touring. You should be an intermediate (Level 2) to advanced off-piste skier, comfortable on variable terrain and able to carry a loaded daypack while skinning uphill.
No previous ski touring experience is required. The week builds progressively, from off-piste coaching and avalanche awareness through to your first tours and a hut-to-hut style experience, so your guide will tailor the pace to the group’s ability throughout.

To get to St. Anton am Arlberg, most people fly into Zürich Airport in Zürich, Switzerland, 2 hours away. From there, you can take a regular train line, a night train, or just rent a car and drive to St. Anton.
Once you and your guide agree on the details of your itinerary, your guide will suggest the best place to meet. You will usually meet the host at the St. Anton am Arlberg railway station, and they will escort you to your hotel in St. Anton.
