A steep, direct climb up Canmore’s most iconic peak. We’ll gain elevation quickly, breaking through treeline to sweeping panoramas over the Bow Valley, Canmore townsite, and Mount Rundle. A bold and energizing start that sets the tone for the adventure ahead.

Today we spend the day exploring the iconic Lake O’Hara,one of the most celebrated and carefully protected alpine areas in the Canadian Rockies. Depending on the group and conditions, we’ll choose from some of the area’s most stunning routes: the serene shores of the Lake O’Hara trail, the wild beauty of Opabin Lake, the dramatic heights of Lake Oesa, or—if the stars align—the legendary Alpine Circuit, a route that earns its reputation at every turn. Wherever the day takes us, you’re in for something extraordinary.

Guests can choose between two classic Lake Louise routes. Plain of Six Glaciers follows the lakeshore into a dramatic glacial cirque, with seracs and avalanche paths towering overhead and a stop at the historic teahouse. Lake Agnes & Big Beehive climbs past Mirror Lake and Lake Agnes Teahouse to a lofty viewpoint over the turquoise expanse of Lake Louise. Beginning at thunderous Takakkaw Falls, the trail climbs quickly to a high bench with uninterrupted glacier views. In the evening, we head out for dinner at Crazyweed, a Canmore favourite since 1997 serving bold, globally-inspired cuisine in a space that’s upscale yet unpretentious. These premium holidays in the Canadian Rockies are designed for active hikers with a good general fitness level, ideal for low intermediate to high intermediate level. Expect 8-14 km (5-9 miles) of hiking per day with 500-800 m (1,600-2,600 ft) of elevation gain. Check out the itinerary for day-by-day distances and elevation changes.
For groups of 6 or more, the itinerary can adapt further—a second guide and vehicle let the group split into two, each hiking a trail suited to their own pace and fitness level.
Trails include well-maintained routes with some steep sections, rocky footing, and sustained climbs. You’ll hike for 4–6 hours a day at a relaxed, guided pace, with breaks for photos, snacks, and scenic lunches. Prior hiking experience—especially in mountain terrain like the Canadian Rockies, Alps, or Pacific Northwest—is recommended but not required. Your ACMG-certified guide can always adjust the pace or route difficulty to match the group’s comfort and conditions.

Liability waivers are a standard part of all guided outdoor adventures. Recently, the requirements have become a bit more rigorous for ACMG guides—meaning that you’ll need to agree to the signing of the waiver at the time of booking.

Lake O’Hara is one of the trip’s highlights, and with this tour, permits are 100% guaranteed!
Access to Lake O’Hara is tightly controlled by Parks Canada: only 5 guests per day are allowed in, and permits can’t be secured until April 1st each year.
Because of that cap, we schedule two separate Lake O’Hara days across the itinerary and split the group, so everyone gets a turn—on those days, the rest of the group hikes a different trail with the second guide. For groups of 6 or more, this works especially well, since a second guide and vehicle come along anyway, letting the group split by pace and fitness level without anyone feeling stuck to one speed.

The starting point of your premium holidays in the Canadian Rockies is Canmore, Alberta—but airport transfers from Calgary International Airport (YYC) to Canmore—are included in the price! So if you’re flying in, you’ll meet your guide at the airport, who will drive you to your accommodation—about a 1 hour and 30 minute journey—where you’ll stay for the duration of the tour.
